  • Putting your recycling and waste out correctly for collection.
  • Ensuring any waste you produce from your household is stored and disposed of legally.

If you don’t leave your bags or bins out for collection in the right way on the right day you could end up with a fixed penalty notice of up to £100.

Getting Green Recycling and Food Bags

You can collect green recycling and food waste bags for the Welcome Centre on the second floor of the Students' Union.

How do I sign up?

  • Download WhatsApp from the app store.

If you live in a property that has recycling and waste collected in bins you will need to use:

  • Green recycling bags,
  • a Kerbside food waste caddy,
  • a Black wheelie bin, and
  • a Green garden waste wheelie bin.

How to correctly leave your waste out for collection

  • All bins, bags and kerbside caddies must be put out before 06:00 in the morning on the day of collection or no earlier than 16:30 the day before.
  • Collections run throughout the day from 06:00 till 22:00.
  • Please return your emptied bins and food caddies to your property boundary by 09:00 in the morning the day after collection.  This will limit the potential of theft and/ or damage by another person.

Most properties in Cardiff will receive their delivery in early summer and in time for the Christmas season. Properties in Cathays, Plasnewydd and Gabalfa will start their 6 monthly delivery cycle in line with the university academic calendar.
