Industrial Action Disruption

The University and College Union (UCU) have organised a number of periods of industrial action between 2018 - 2023. These webpages are designed to provide information, advice and guidance to students whose teaching, learning and experience may have been impacted by the industrial action.

In the Academic Year 2022-23, industrial action took place on:

  • Tuesday 14 to Thursday 16 February
  • Tuesday 21 to Thursday 23 February
  • Monday 27 February to Thursday 2 March
  • Thursday 16 and Friday 17 March
  • Monday 20 to Wednesday 22 March

The UCU also announced that industrial action in the form of a Marking and Assessment Boycott (MAB) would occur in Spring 2023 (as of 20th April 2023). The MAB is ongoing, as of July 2023.

Further industrial action has been announced for the following dates:

  • Monday 17 to Friday 21 July

  • Monday 14 to Friday 18 August

  • Saturday 16 September

  • Monday 25 to Friday 29 September

The Students’ Union is independent of the University, and given the nature of strike action, we are unable to advise with any degree of certainty what Schools, programmes or lectures are likely to be affected.

Students can access general information about the industrial action, including the dates of planned strike action, by visiting the Strike Action pages university intranet.

We are aware that some students may be affected in the release of their marks or transcripts, as a result of the industrial action and marking and assessment boycott (MAB). If you have questions, head over to our Marking Boycott FAQs page for more information.
