Meet the Team

Emily Harding – Head of Student Advice and Wellbeing

Hi / Shwmae! I have worked in Student Advice since January, 2012 and can honestly say that I love both my role and my team. I have worked in advice generally for most of my career, with my role prior to joining the Students’ Union focusing on consumer law. I worked as a Student Adviser until last year, when I became Head of Department. With 10 years’ experience, I have become somewhat of an expert in the University’s rules, policies and procedures and can advise and support through some of the most complex cases. I also spend a lot of my time developing our advice webpages and department resources to make sure that students can access good quality information when they need it. I am currently learning sign language, a course I am really enjoying and feel passionate about.

Jane Harding – Senior Student Adviser

Shwmae! I have been a Student Adviser in Student Advice since 2008. Every day I provide advice and guidance to students and colleagues in respect of academic and housing matters. I am a trained restorative mediator, and alongside my role I work with Cardiff University, the QAA and the OIA to improve the student experience.  This work has included collaboration on improving the academic appeal and complaint processes and a full review of the academic regulations as well as contribution to the Student Written Submission. My greatest job satisfaction comes through empowering students to overcome difficult times and achieve academic success.

Jessica Petersen – Student Adviser

Hi, I am one of two Student Advisers in Cardiff Students’ Union’s Student Advice Team. My role is to advise, support and advocate for students of Cardiff University. I graduated from Cardiff University in 2018, and have first-hand experience of Talybont Halls, inter-School netball tournaments and the Cardiff University lifestyle. Wishing you all the best with your University experience, but happy to be on hand if you need some support.

Ella Ferris – Student Advice and Advocacy Coordinator

Hello, I am one of the Student Advice and Advocacy Coordinators in Student Advice. I completed my Law and Politics degree at Cardiff, graduating in 2020. I lived in Talybont Halls and was a part of the University’s dance competition teams, so I have experience in lots of different areas of the student experience. I provide advice, support and representation to students and I’m a certified Mental Health First Aider. I also help to facilitate our social media platforms on Instagram: @cusuadvice, Facebook: Advice CUSU and Twitter: @AdviceCUSU. Outside of work I am a keen dancer and equestrian. I’m here to help and support you if you need advice.

Kasia Kutcher - Student Advice and Advocacy Coordinator

I work as Student Advice and Advocacy Coordinator at the Student Union. I joined the team in November 2021 after finishing my MA degree in Development and Emergency Practice. I have studied at both Aberystwyth and Oxford Brookes University.  During my student years, I have been involved in my Students' Unions by being a part of the basketball club. I am quite new to Cardiff, but I am enjoying my time here and I am keen to explore the area. I can advise on a range of academic-related issues, and you can also see me during our drop-in sessions.

Jessica Scott - Student Advice and Wellbeing Coordinator

Hello! I am the Student Advice and Wellbeing Coordinator in Cardiff Students’ Union’s Student Advice Team.  Having studied Psychology at Cardiff University, graduating in 2021, I have very recent experience of the Cardiff student life. My role within the Advice Team includes coordinating the CUSU’s Student Led Services and the Advice and Welfare Executive Committee, as well as assisting in developing and implementing wellbeing-related campaigns for the Students’ Union. I wish you the best for your student experience, and encourage those interested to get in touch with me about the Student Led Services and the Advice and Welfare Exec Committee.
