Meet the Team
Jessica Petersen – Head of Student Advice and Wellbeing
Hello! I am the Student Advice Service Manager. My role is to manage the Student Advice Team and to advise, support and advocate for students of Cardiff University. I graduated from Cardiff University in 2018, and have first-hand experience of Talybont Halls, inter-School netball tournaments and the Cardiff University lifestyle. Wishing you all the best with your University experience, but happy to be on hand if you need some support.
Jane Harding – Senior Student Adviser
Shwmae! I have been a Student Adviser in Student Advice since 2008. Every day I provide advice and guidance to students and colleagues in respect of academic and housing matters. I am a trained restorative mediator, and alongside my role I work with Cardiff University, the QAA and the OIA to improve the student experience. This work has included collaboration on improving the academic appeal and complaint processes and a full review of the academic regulations as well as contribution to the Student Written Submission. My greatest job satisfaction comes through empowering students to overcome difficult times and achieve academic success.
Ella Ferris – Student Adviser
Hello, I am one of the Student Adviser in Student Advice. I completed my Law and Politics degree at Cardiff, graduating in 2020. I lived in Talybont Halls and was a part of the University’s dance competition teams, so I have experience in lots of different areas of the student experience. I provide advice, support and representation to students and I’m a certified Mental Health First Aider. I also help to facilitate our social media platforms on Instagram: @cusuadvice, Facebook: Advice CUSU and Twitter: @AdviceCUSU. Outside of work I am a keen dancer and equestrian. I’m here to help and support you if you need advice.
India Thomas - Student Advice and Advocacy Coordinator
Hello! I am one of the Student Advice and Advocacy Coordinators. I provide advice, support and representation to students. I graduated from Cardiff University in 2016 and was involved with Student Media and the Dancesport team while completing my English Literature degree. Since then I have worked both in media roles, and as an Inclusion and Wellbeing Leader. I hope you have a wonderful time at Cardiff University, but am here to help should you require any further support.
Poppy Dunbar-Jones – Student Advice and Advocacy Coordinator
Hello! I am one of the Student Advice and Advocacy Coordinator’s at Student Advice. I am here to provide advice and representation to students. I have recently graduated from Cardiff University with a degree in Psychology and so have great insight on being a student in this city. During my first year I lived in Talybont Student Halls and joined several societies and groups, so I have first-hand experience of living in Cardiff and the student lifestyle. I hope you have a positive experience at Cardiff University, but I am here to support you if needed!
Andy Howell - Student Advice and Wellbeing Coordinator
Hello, I’m Andy, the Student Advice and Wellbeing Coordinator. I am passionate about all-things wellbeing, and as a former university student, I understand many of the highs and lows that students go through. I organise a variety of wellbeing campaigns, help run our 9 fantastic Student-Led Services, coordinate our Student Advice social media pages, as well as other things! I loved my time at university and want to help others get the most out of their time studying at Cardiff University. Always feel free to get in touch with me, whether it’s for advice, volunteering, or just to have a chat about wellbeing.
