Welcome to our new page everyone! Since Spring is now in full swing, we have decided to put together a fun set of tips and challenges so that we can all start being active and taking care of ourselves.

We completely understand that fitness and wellbeing are different for everyone and that’s why we planned a variety of activities and resources for you to follow along. Throughout the 4 weeks, we’ll focus on getting active, getting mindful and getting outside – you can find out more below! We’ll share our tips on mental wellbeing, running, walking, meditation, small every day changes we can all make and so many others, all designed to keep a healthy mind and body!

Get Active

To stay fit and healthy, the NHS recommends you get at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity a week, or around 20 to 30 minutes a day.

We have put together a Strava group for you to track your progress and show off your exercise log. Don’t be afraid to get a little competitive, but remember, this is all just for fun.

We have put together PRIZES for anyone who completes our target of 150 minutes of physical exercise per week. There are 4 weeks of the campaign, which means 4 chances at achieving the target! Share with us a proof of completing the activity either by tagging us on our socials or send it to us directly by DM or email!

Our fantastic, amazing, brilliant prizes include t-shirts, water bottles, outdoor activities and bags. YES, that is a FREE T-shirt for getting active!

Get Mindful

This Self-Care campaign is all about promoting caring for yourself and taking the time for you and your mind. We have collaborated with WeHeal and Medics Yoga & Wellbeing to create wellbeing materials to help you deal with difficult emotions and learn how to unwind with yoga.

We know how hard this year has been for Heath Park Campus students, so we wanted to give you a little something to help you 'get mindful'. This Self-Care campaign is all about promoting caring for yourself, in order to care for others. We have collaborated with WeHeal, Plant Society & Medics Yoga & Wellbeing to give out wellbeing packs containing a ‘grow your own plant’ kit, self-care prompt tear-away sheets, encouraging sticky notes and print-outs of our mindfulness materials. You can apply for these here.

You will also be able to join us for our speaker event dealing with stress management, on the 29th April.

Get Outside

Top recommendations of local places to visit from our Wonderful Students’ Union Staff:

A little bit further afield

  • Cefn Onn Park & Two Ridges - Walk across the North of Cardiff with views to Somerset on a sunny day
  • Cardiff bay and Wetlands – You can either get the train or cycle down to Cardiff Bay and enjoy this simple walk around enjoying all the sights.
  • The Pentyrch Viewing Platform – This walk has a spectacular view from a height. Directions: Take the train to Taffs Well. Leave station on Cardiff Road exit (same side as platform), cross road and take bridge across river. Turn left at end of path after bridge and cross road. Opposite is a disused concrete road with a metal gate. Walk past gate and take the route for about 1/2 mile towards the abutment of the old railway viaduct on left. Look for a hilly narrow path in woods. Climb that then on the path above look for a similar path. Once at the top turn right and follow the track around in a 90 degree angle (the quarry is actually on left fenced off for safety). The viewing platform will eventually appear. Climb the 6 steps and simply admire the view into the quarry and see the work in action. Either return by same route or continue left into woods and keeping the route of the quarry on left follow the tracks through the woods keeping to a left direction. Eventually you will arrive in Morganstown by the Ty Nant pub. Turn right onto main road and walk for 3/4 towards Radyr and look for signs for Radyr station to return to Cathays. This trip is well worth a visit.
  • Salmon Leaps Walks – Starting at Dinas Powys, this walk combines the Wales Coast path with the Picturesque beauty of inland Vale.
  • Castle Coah
  • St. Fagans Museum of Welsh History
