From your first day, we’re here to help you feel at home; from finding lifelong friends, to trying a brand new activity or hanging out with your housemates at one of our events, you’ll find plenty to keep you busy.

Activities and events have looked quite different over the last year. But this year we’re hoping to be back, better than before for an awesome Freshers’ Fortnight. We are at the heart of student life in Cardiff and we want to make sure you have every opportunity to get to know the city around you, make friends, memories and ensure you kick off your time at Cardiff University in the best way possible.

This year you can expect lots of in-person daytime events to help you familiarise yourself with your Students’ Union, the services we offer and the brand new city around you! Get to know our 200+ societies, 60+ sports clubs and Cardiff Volunteering team with our Freshers’ Fairs where you can also pick up some exciting freebies!

Explore the city around you and beyond with Give It A Go who offer a variety of day trips to places such as Cardiff Castle and Barry Island. Give It A Go are also behind our taster sessions, so if you see a club or society that piques your interest but you’re not quite sure, you can sign up to one of their sessions.

We know that some of you may need to isolate when you arrive at University or you may not be ready to go out and socialise just yet, which we completely understand. That is why we will be hosting a variety of virtual events so you can enjoy Freshers’ Fortnight from the comfort of your own home (loungewear optional).

Our legendary in-house pub The Taf will be reopening its doors this September with delicious food, awesome drinks deals and exciting evening events! Known as your friendly student local, The Taf hosts weekly events from Twosdays with 2|4|1 on pizzas and cocktails, live sport, live music and the popular Taf Quiz. This September will also see the return of The Taf’s epic Sunday Roast, a must-have after a Saturday night in Y Plas!

This Freshers you can also experience a variety of evening events away from the club night shenanigans and a number of alcohol-free events, including cosy film nights in The Lounge, Comedy Night with Comedy Central and live music.

While we plan all the fun, we do ask that you book a table where possible before you attend and download our app so that you can enjoy your whole evening from the comfort of your designated table.

We are home to the official Cardiff University Freshers’ club nights, brought to you in style in our very own nightclub, Y Plas. All of our events are tailored specifically to our amazing students, so get ready to meet a lot of new faces on the dancefloor and behind the bar; seriously, you won’t find an adult for miles! We are also home to one of the longest bars in Wales and known for our status as number 1 consumer for VK in the in the Universe!

This September we’ll be hosting a range of events where you can dance the night away until the early hours, this year we’re going all out. Experience the return of legendary student club nights, YOLO and JUICE and get involved with Freshers’ traditions like Ice Breaker, Bingo Lingo and Cirque Du Soul
