Congratulations to all our student competitors who took part in the Welsh Varsity tournament and helped us bring the Varsity Shield back to Cardiff for another year!
Over 5,100 students made the trip to Swansea to cheer on TeamCardiff in the long-awaited return of Welsh Varsity, one of the largest student sporting events in the UK. We’d like to say a big thank you to our Team Cardiff supporters who came and cheered the teams on since the tournament began on the 2nd April. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.
Megan, your VP Sport and AU President is thrilled with the result:
“I’m so proud of all our Team Cardiff competitors today, what a return it has been after an incredibly tough two years for both sport and the student experience. Varsity is a highlight in the student calendar, a day to come together and celebrate everything about student sport and student life.
It has been the icing on the cake to retain the shield today, as a competitor myself in the Netball team I know the hard work and dedication that goes into the preparation. To get the win means everything to those competing.
A huge well done to all Team Cardiff... what a result!”
Welsh Varsity provides an opportunity for the whole student community to come together and celebrate student sport and show pride for the University as a whole. The day celebrates the diversity of sport in many forms, from football to fencing, water polo to ultimate frisbee and tae-kwon-do to tennis! For the competitors, it is a pinnacle of the sporting calendar and a chance to compete to both represent individual sports and the wider Team Cardiff community.
The result represents a powerful return for Team Cardiff, something they will hope to replicate for many years to come.
