The Students’ Union is pro-choice. This has been the case since 2019 when over 800 students debated the Students’ Union position on abortion rights. There was an overwhelming response from the Cardiff University student community. As your Students’ Union Officers we are in support of all students making their own decisions in relation to their body, which is in line with the Union’s pro-choice stance and the law.
Our stance does not resolve to censor any student or student group, nor deny their right to affiliate, no matter their views on this subject. There are affiliated student groups from a broad spectrum of activities, beliefs, faiths and interests, with some of these groups representing views that others do not hold.
As a Students’ Union, we have a legal duty to uphold freedom of speech on campus (as dictated by the Education Act 1994). This means that as long as the activity of a group is safe, legal and operates in line with expectations set for all groups, the Union is unable to stop the group from forming and undertaking activity on campus.
We want to make clear that this is a duty we are bound to uphold, regardless of the Students’ Union’s political stances on matters. This means we are unable to remove or deny the affiliation of any group with opposing views.

Mae'r Undeb Myfyrwyr o blaid rhoi dewis i bobl. Mae hyn wedi bod yn wir ers 2019 pan fu mwy nag 800 o fyfyrwyr yn trafod safbwynt hawliau erthyliad yr Undeb Myfyrwyr. Cafwyd ymateb ysgubol gan gymuned myfyrwyr Prifysgol Caerdydd. Fel Swyddogion Undeb y Myfyrwyr rydym yn cefnogi pob myfyriwr i wneud penderfyniadau eu hunain ar faterion sy’n ymwneud â'u cyrff, sy'n unol â safiad pro-ddewis yr Undeb a'r gyfraith.
Nid yw ein safiad yn ceisio sensro unrhyw fyfyriwr neu grwp myfyrwyr, nac yn gwadu eu hawl i gysylltu, dim ots beth yw eu barn ar y pwnc. Mae grwpiau myfyrwyr cysylltiedig yn bodoli, gydag amrywiaeth eang o weithgareddau, credoau a diddordebau, gyda rhai o'r grwpiau hyn yn cynrychioli safbwyntiau nid yw grwpiau eraill yn rhannu.
Fel Undeb Myfyrwyr mae gennym ddyletswydd gyfreithiol i sicrhau rhyddid barn ar y campws (fel y nodir gan Ddeddf Addysg 1994). Mae hyn yn golygu, ar yr amod bod gweithgaredd grwp yn ddiogel, yn gyfreithiol ac yn gweithredu yn unol â'r disgwyliadau a osodwyd ar gyfer pob grwp, ni all yr Undeb atal y grwp rhag ffurfio ac ymgymryd â gweithgareddau ar y campws.
Mae hon yn ddyletswydd yr ydym yn rhwym o'i chynnal, waeth beth yw safbwynt gwleidyddol Undeb y Myfyrwyr. Mae hyn yn golygu na allwn ddileu na gwadu cysylltiad unrhyw grwp â safbwyntiau gwrthwynebol.
