Emergency First Aid For The Appointed Person (1 session of 6 hours)

This course covers the essential basics in First Aid such as CPR, bandaging etc.  Certification (valid 3 years) is awarded upon successful completion of course activities and assessment.  £30 payable for tuition, resources and certification.  The certificate is endorsed by The Health and Safety Executive.

Wednesday and Thursday evening week 1 6-9pm, 2020-21, then Thursdays week 2 to end of semester 1. Recommencing Thursday after January examination period 2021 until mid March inclusive.
Always a popular course providing students with the knowledge and practical skills in order to be able to communicate through the medium of British Sign, an officially recognised language.  The course is delivered by an external training provider.  There are three units and it is necessary to attend at least 80% of the sessions and successfully complete all three assessments for certification. Students traditionally opt to attain the full award. Courses fill up with “provisional” names in the previous academic year but spaces tend to become available closer to the start of the course.  


Tuition and resources - Normally £350.00 if attending privately via community-based learning.  Cardiff University students specially reduced price  £200.00.   

Assessments – 101 £30.00, 102 £45.00, 103 £45.00 all inclusive of VAT.  Assessments are not compulsory but recommended.

Assessment prices will be confirmed before commencement of the course. Assessment dates: Unit 101 - 11 December 2019, Unit 102 - 12 December 2019, 103 - 19 March 2020.

Mental Health Awareness

Wednesday 4 December 2-5pm, Heath Campus. As part of Mental Health Awareness Week.

The focus of this workshop is for participants to be able to identify, understand and provide guidance to anyone who may be developing a mental health issue. Understand the stigma and taboo surrounding mental health, and take a look at 'best practice' techniques, resilience and coping skills. This is an ever increasing and sought after topic by organisations and will be a fine addition to your CV.

European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL)

The ECDL (Europe Computer Driving Licence) certification is a highly recognised qualification, it offers you a key recognition of your literacy in computer skills and is designed for novices or casual computer users and will get you to a high computer literacy standard. The ECDL Certification is the fastest growing IT user qualification in over 125 countries, with many UK companies setting the ECDL as a mandatory requirement.

ECDL qualifications can be constructed from a combination of these modules:

IT user fundamentals
Internet and email
Word processing
Spreadsheet software
Presentation software
Database software
Online collaboration
Improving productivity
Project planning
IT security for users

Cardiff University offers the 7 unit (Core) version comprising IT user fundamentals, Internet and email, Word processing, Spreadsheet software, Presentation software, Database software and IT security for users .

But a specific combination of these can be constructed and can also offer a version that excludes the database module that some users don’t like, and also leave out the Internet/email module due to credit count. 

Upon completion of this programme the ECDL Certificate indicates IT user fundamentals, IT security for users, Word processing, Spreadsheet software, Presentation software and the additional Improving Productivity module that must be included where you build your own ECDL certificate.
