Emergency First Aid For The Appointed Person (1 session of 6 hours)
Course subject to conditions set down by Welsh Government regarding tiering and the availability of a suitable large premises.
This course covers the essential basics in First Aid such as CPR, bandaging etc. Certification (valid 3 years) is awarded upon successful completion of course activities and assessment. £30 payable for tuition, resources and certification. The certificate is endorsed by The Health and Safety Executive.
We are currently waiting advice regarding face to face teaching before being able to announce any dates for this course. Usual days of delivering this are on Saturdays 0930-1630.

Due to the current CV19 restrictions, CIEH have authorised that we are able to run this course virtually. It will be split into 9 modules over 4 weeks of between 90 minutes and 2 hours each plus the assessment. Dates to follow.

British Sign Language Level 1
SDS has teamed up with Deaf Friendly Business Solutions and will be offering Level One in British Sign Language accredited by The Institute of British Sign Language, undertaken digitally. Commencing Wednesday 17 February 2021 6pm.
This is a world first interactive distance learning online course with additional Zoom sessions to access direct tutor input. The online course has over 250 bite sized videos, conversation practice and some virtual conversation opportunities with the teaching staff. For students studying in the College of Bio and Medical Sciences there is a module on health, and additional information about communicating through Sign in the healthcare sector.
The course is available on any device and is accessible wherever you have internet access. Online for a sneaky 5 minutes, or for a longer session, every time you go online you will be learning more of the language.
Structure & Milestone Plan
The Level 1 qualification in British Sign Language has a guided study time of 60 hours and you can study at your own pace.
Commencing Wednesday 17 February 6pm, then online learning with three milestones to be reached (dates below) and the optional assessment taking place in June or later if this is more convenient. The following is a guided learning schedule to achieve the Level 1 certificate in British Sign Language in 6 months.
By week beginning 5th April to reach week 9 (20 hours of study)
By week beginning 17th May to reach week 18 (40 hours of study)
By week beginning 28th June to reach week 26 (60 hours of study)
Payment for the course allows access for 12 months and exams can be set at any point in the 12 months following the start date.
There are 3 components: receptive skills (1A1), descriptive/presentation skills (1A2) and conversation skills (1A3).
Cost for all tuition and resources is £104.00+ VAT and the optional assessment to achieve the Certificate (payable nearer the time upon registration) is £105.00+ VAT.

- Awareness of the different types of communication that deaf people use
- Several British Sign Language signs
