Event Information
Ten years after the economic crash began we are still suffering. Now another economic crisis looms, and around the globe war, racism and environmental destruction are threatening. Capitalism means misery without end for all but a tiny handful of people.
Marx explained that the basis of capitalism is exploitation: workers generate huge wealth with their labour, but are paid back only a fraction of that wealth as wages as their reward: the rest is monopolised by the capitalists as profit. Socialists instead want to let society decide, democratically, how the wealth is shared out. But how do we build that society? What kind of party do we need to create to fight for it? Could society be brought in gradually by parliament, or do we need revolution? Wouldn't a socialist society inevitable degenerate into a dictatorship?
All these points and more taken up in our next meeting. Join the discussion. All current and potential socialists welcome!
