Psychology Discussion Club: “The Blank Slate” by Steven Pinker

Thursday 03 October 2019, 4pm - 11pm

Psychology Tower Reception

Event Information

Open to psychology students and non-psychology students interested in discussing and learning about human thought and behaviour! Come along to our first ever Psychology Reading and Discussion Club, where we’ll be having a casual discussion about the origins of human behaviour over tea and cake.

Psychological debate has long ranged as to whether natural selection has led to inbuilt behavioural and cognitive mechanisms, or whether we’re born as “blank slates” and our personalities are shaped purely by experience. We hope to spark discussion on these ideas and apply them to areas such as behavioural genetics, neuroscience, clinical psychology, linguistics and social psychology!

It’s absolutely not necessary to have read the book or even know anything about it, so don’t worry if you can’t: it’s mainly to serve as a discussion point!
