Societies
As part of a Society, you'll be able to meet like-minded people, discover the passion you never knew you had and make the best friends a student could wish for. From Baking to Debating, Skydiving to Scouting, there really is something for everyone. Check out our full list of Societies here. You'll also be able to find out about Society Give it a Go events, so you can try before you buy!
Societies will be showing off all that they can offer their members, so expect the unexpected. There'll be spectacular performances, live music and outrageous costumes.
So pop down to the Students' Union, fill up on free food and join a society or three. It may be the best decision you make! And don't forget to come back tomorrow when the rest of our Societies will be in Y Stiwdio and the Great Hall.
How much does it cost to join a Society?
You have to pay a basic £6 fee (which is subject to change each year) to be a member of the Guild of Societies. This fee covers insurance, administrative support and contributes to the annual grants fund but once you've paid you're good to take part in as many societies as you want. Each society has their own specific joining fee.

Volunteering
Volunteering is a great way to gain valuable employability skills and experience that looks great on a CV, as well as helping to make a difference in your new local community. You’ll also get to meet loads of new people and have a lot of fun! Cardiff Volunteering offers a wide variety of different and exciting projects to choose from to fit around your University schedule - so whether it’s walking dogs at the local rescue, befriending at hospitals or helping to teach pupils in local schools – there really is something for everyone!
You can also find out about our Lead Volunteer positions (leading to a Diploma of Professional Development in Leadership) and get exclusive access to “Early Bird” tickets to some of the hottest FUN-draising events planned this year like Jailbreak, Blind Date and Bonkers Bingo – so it really is a no-brainer!
Come along to find out more and sign up to our projects and don’t forget to check out Wednesday’s Fair too when more volunteering opportunities will be on offer.
