Problematic Eaters Alliance (PEA)

Whether it be an allergy, an intolerance or something else entirely, some of us don’t exactly have an easy ride when it comes to food.

Hi, I’m Meg, and I’m your president! I was recently diagnosed with Coeliac Disease and Lactose Intolerance and it’s really affected my student experience. Struggles with shared kitchens, with adapting to a new diet, and with the mental struggle that came with these diagnoses were difficult, and I’ve felt quite low at times and awkward around others. I want to take what I’ve learned from my own experiences and help others in a similar situation, creating a positive environment that focusses on what we can eat rather than what we can’t. I can’t wait to meet the mew members and I look forward to swapping stories and recipes with you all!

Hey, I’m Cora, I’m your Treasurer. I have found uni challenging to navigate with my allergies, especially on nights out where it’s a lot harder to keep track of drink ingredients and things like that. I find it scary how little provision there is, I want to improve that, and I am super excited to start such a positive society!

This society aims to run SOCIALS in vetted venues, fostering a safe space for our little community. We will be creating RESOURCES such as budget friendly recipe books and lists of trustworthy local dieticians and support services. We will be CAMPAIGNING to improve things for students in shared kitchens.

Refreshers 2019

Firstly a big welcome back to all our returning members this semester! Thank you so much for supporting us in our first few months, and helping us get this society up and running. We're really proud of our achievements so far, and I'd like to take a moment to relfect on the key events of the Autumn semester:

  • We officially started the society! We got our committee, our name and logo, our Constitution, and we ran a successful stall at the Fresher's Fair.
  • We held two socials - one alcoholic, one non-alcoholic - and no epi-pens were required!
  • We elected a new Secretary! We're thrilled to welcome Mollie Boyce to our committee.

Thank you so much to all of you who supported us so far, it's a huge achievement to get a new society going and we've surpassed expectations for our first few months.

This semester we aim to really hit the ground running, with new REGULAR GET-TOGETHERS, CAMPAIGNING, new COMMITTEE POSITIONS and the arrival of our long awaited COOKERY BOOK!!! Not to mention more fantastic socials, the AGM, elections and the possibility of some aprons... Our committee is working really hard to deliver a great semester!

We're looking forward to meeting our new members at our first social back "No Roast For The Wicked" (credits for the hilariously punny name as always go to our glorious President), please see the event below for details and to buy your ticket! It would be wonderful to have as many of you at this social as we can, as our committee is hoping to make it part of Feedback February. We really want our members to enjoy our society and feel some ownership over our activities so this February our committee want to hear from you! We want to know what you thought of our socials so far, we want to discuss our ideas for this semester and any ideas you may have, so we will be asking everyone who attends this social to complete a short survey which will really help us plan this semester for you.

As always, keep an eye on our facebook page for the most up to date content from us, best of luck to all those who still have assignments to complete, and we look forward to seeing you in the new semester!

Cora, Meg and Mollie xxxxxx
