Welsh Hearts Society

** Best small society 2019-2020 / / Gold tier // Best fundraisers 2020-21 **

12 young people die every week in the UK from heart conditions they didn't know they had. Knowing what to do and being confident in emergency situations can help save lives.

What do we do?

  • Teach students and the community how to save a life with CPR, AED and basic first aid classes
  • Fundraise for live-saving defibrillators
  • Campaign to ensure every child in Wales is taught CPR in schools

Why join us?

  • Being a teacher allows you to increase your confidence in these emergency situations, become a better teacher and give others these lifesaving skills. Teaching these skills can be a valuable asset on CVs and accounts for a number of points on medical speciality applications.
  • It's not all serious - we host a number of alcoholic and non-alcoholic fundraising events and socials throughout the year - we've done pub quizzes, yoga classes and blind dating to just name a few. These socials are a great way to meet new people from different courses and different year groups.
  • It's only £2 - all donations go towards funding vital equipment for the community and heart screening
  • Access to Welsh Hearts events. The charity has connections to the Welsh FA, Brains Pubs and the WRU meaning members will get access to exclusive events when they're organised. Past events have included fundraising before rugby & football matches with free entry to the game afterwards.
  • Be part of the change - we're working towards getting every child in Wales taught CPR as part of the national curriculum. Help the cause.

So far we've taught over 1400 members of the public CPR and placed our first AED on the Gathering Ground cafe near Roath Park.
