The Executive Committee

SabbsAt the head of the Students' Union is an Executive Committee of full- and part-time paid elected student representatives, whose job it is to ensure that we are engaging with you and acting in your interests at all times.

The Executive Committee are responsible for addressing the issues that affect students at Cardiff University, and for representing your views on an institutional, local and national level.  They propose new ways to move both the Students' Union and the University forward, helping both organisations to modernise and progress.

The Executive Committee in 2007-8

The Executive Committee aspire to make the student experience at Cardiff University the best it can possibly be.

The team is currently working with the University to implement increasingly effective and efficient methods of communicating with students, and to build upon the success of the Union's ‘Freshers' Crew', an initiative that was launched in Septemer with the aim of welcoming new students to the University.

Following the success of a sexual health awareness campaign in November, February will see the launch of ‘Healthy Week', which will encourage students to address all areas of their physical and mental well-being.  The team continue to champion the ‘Invest in Sport' campaign and to address ethical and environmental issues within the University, highlighted by the imminent launch of the ‘Go Green' campaign.  These will be closely followed by ‘Go Global', a fortnight-long festival of culture and diversity within the Union.

Significant changes to the annual cross-campus elections focus on providing students with clearer information about the process, with plans to take advantage of electronic voting systems in the near future.

The team is in the early stages of involving students in an entire review of the governance and constitution of the Students' Union, aiming to ensure that its democratic structures are open to and representative of the entire student body.  The Executive Committee continues to work with students and various Union departments to outline the strategic direction of the organisation, and to make proposals and plans for the development of the Students' Union building.
