What is Student Council?

Student Council is the governing body of Cardiff University Students' Union.  It is the means by which your elected student representatives are held to account, and the forum where students can contribute to the continual process of ensuring that the Students' Union is acting in the interests of the student body.

As a student at Cardiff University, you are one of the shareholders of the Students' Union, and you therefore have the fundamental democratic right to determine the policy and direction of the organisation.

Who attends Student Council?

Student Council is comprised of the Students' Union's elected Executive Committee and a much larger number of student councillors.  All students are invited to take up seats as councillors.

What happens at Student Council?

Student Council meets every fortnight to create, monitor and scrutinise Union policy.  Among the key considerations this year are likely to be the proposals for a new Students' Union building, and a new constitution for the organisation.

Any student can propose an idea or submit a motion to Student Council.  If you think the Students' Union should be taking an active stance on a particular issue, then come along to one of the meetings or see our guide on submitting a motion.

How Do I Get Involved?

Just come along to one of the meetings listed below.  All students are welcome and refreshments will be provided.

If you have any questions about Student Council, please contact Eleanor Morris from the Students' Union democracy team.
