Here is our step-by-step guide to standing for election:
1. Make sure you're eligible to run.
In order to run for any of the positions, you must be a registered student at Cardiff University.
2. Choose your position(s).
There are 35 positions available. You can run for a full- or part-time position on the Students' Union's Executive Committee, and/or for a delegate position at NUS Annual Conference in April 2008.
3. Find out everything you need to know.
Read all of the information on the elections process here on the website. Become completely familiar with the job description for the position you are standing for, and take note of key dates and campaigning and publicity regulations.
Download our Candidate Information Pack (see below) which will guide you through the process in more detail.
We would also strongly recommend that you attend one of our 'Are You Interested In Standing For Election?' evenings (click here for more information), or that you take another opportunity to speak with the current Executive Committee and discuss your ideas.
4. Download and complete the nomination form within the Candidate Information Pack below.
The pack includes a guide to getting yourself nominated and preparing your publicity materials and putting together your manifesto text.
If you require a paper version or have any queries, contact us at elections@cardiff.ac.uk or on 02920 781422.
5. Submit the nomination form (and book a publicity design appointment) between 10am on Monday 25th February and 3pm on Friday 29th February 2008.
You must then bring your drafted manifesto text and photo to the compulory candidates meeting at 5.30pm on Friday 29th February 2008, in the Aneurin Bevan room on the 4th floor of the Union.
These can either be submitted electronically to elections@cardiff.ac.uk or directly to Eleanor Morris, Democracy area, Student Services, 3rd floor, Students' Union (tel: 02920 781422).
Nominations submitted after the deadline (3pm, Friday 29th February 2008) will not be accepted under any circumstances.
All done? Congratulations. You are now ready to stand for election.
A list of the candidates standing for each position (together with their manifestos and podcasts) will be posted online on Monday 10 March 2008.
