The Constitution of Cardiff University Students' Union is divided into three sections: Ordinance 13, Laws and Appendices.
Ordinance 13 is part of the Statutes of Cardiff University, which, in turn, are determined by the Royal Charter of the University. Within these Statutes, Ordinance 13 relates specifically to the official Students' Union of Cardiff University, setting out our fundamental purpose, mission and function.
The Laws set out the function of the Students' Union in more detail. Where, for example, Ordinance 13 has stated that the Students' Union shall have an Executive Committee of elected student representatives, the Laws elaborate on this in more detail and set out the job title and description of each of the elected officers. Laws can be made and amended by Student Council on all matters relating to the Union which do not directly affect Ordinance 13. In order to make amendments which will impact upon Ordinance 13, the decision of Student Council must be ratified at the Students' Union's Annual General Meeting and approved by the University.
Lastly, the three Appendices detail the regulations surrounding particular processes of the Union: discipline and complaints procedures, the elections process and the conduct of Student Council and General Meetings.
