Student Councillors 2010

The Annual General Meeting is the sovereign body of Cardiff University Students’ Union. It is the forum where students debate and determine the direction of the organisation. As the Students’ Union is directed by you, our student members, we use the AGM to adopt a collective stance on an issue and decide what action we will take.
Any student can attend, and any student can submit a motion for discussion. The Students’ Union also adopts policies at an AGM by ratifying decisions taken at Student Council meetings throughout the year.
The AGM is the place where students are presented with – and are responsible for passing – the Students’ Union’s Annual Report. It is also the means by which you hold your Executive Committee to account; motions of no confidence in elected student representatives can be passed at an AGM.
Constitutionally, the AGM must be held between Christmas and Easter every year. In unusual circumstances, an Extraordinary General Meeting may also be called at another point in the year.
The next AGM is on Thursday 11 February 2010 in the Great Hall at 6.30pm and every student at Cardiff University is invited to attend. All you need in order to vote is your NUS student ID card.
The AGM requires a quorum of 2% of the entire student body – roughly 500 students – for the decisions it makes to be ratified (become union policy).
Any Cardiff student can submit a motion to AGM to become policy of Cardiff Students’ Union. The sabbatical officers and executive committee are mandated to carry out the policy set by AGM and Student Council.
For example, motions passed last year by AGM led to The Taf serving Real Ale and Cider and a new Healthcare Integration Sabbatical Officer position being created.
All motions need to be submitted to agm@cardiff.ac.uk before 4pm on Thursday 4th February.
