Referenda

A referenda is defined as "...a ballot in which all Student Members of the Union are entitled to cast a vote...". For more information on Students' Union governance please see our Governing Documents.

A referenda is a 'Yes' or 'No' vote. 

What can be decided by a referenda?

• The Removal of any Elected Officers
• Policy (within the Students' Union and a wider stance)
• Affiliations

How can a referenda be triggered?

• a resolution of the trustees
• a simple majority vote of Student Senate
• a secure petition signed by at least 500 student members

To start a peition or submit policy to student senate just contact democracy@cardiff.ac.uk who can support you. 

How can a referenda be passed?

At least 1,500 student members must vote by the close of poll. A referenda will be deemed to pass if there is a majority of votes in favour of the motion.
