Postgrad Life
If you are coming to study a postgraduate course then you certainly aren't alone. There are over 3,000 postgrads at Cardiff. As a postgraduate student you may be studying a taught or a research course, part-time or full-time. Your course may last just a few months, or you could be here for the next four years. You may be new to Cardiff, or you may have been here for some years. You may be single, married, with children, living with your family, live in a bed-sit, a shared house or in halls of residence. Or you might not even live in Cardiff! Clearly, postgrads form a large and diverse community. Here are some ways you can meet other postgrads, get the most out of your studies and generally enjoy your experiences at Cardiff University.
As a postgraduate community, it is important not only that we are in touch with each other, but that our views and needs are represented in the Students' Union and the University. These issues are co-ordinated by the Union's Postgraduate Officer. This officer works as a volunteer part-time alongside their course, and can be contacted by emailing pgsrc@cf.ac.uk for advice and information. We also have the Postgraduate Students' Representative Committee (PGSRC) and are always looking for new members from every department. Get involved as soon as you start at Cardiff!
Much more than as an undergraduate, you can determine what your postgraduate life will be like. Whatever you do, it starts in Freshers with your departmental induction and the Students Union's Postgraduate Orientation Programme.
