Environmental Policy
Student Council notes:
1. That Climate Change is now at the top of the political agenda.
2. That Students’ Unions and Universities throughout the country are becoming increasingly more ‘green’.
3. The impact of the Higher Education Sector on the environment.
4. Successful existing environmental campaigns in universities through out the U.K., such as the ‘Go Green’ campaign.
Student Council believes:
1. Climate Change is a real and serious threat to humanity and the planet.
2. Reducing carbon emissions and waste can combat Climate Change.
3. The Union has a responsibility to take account for its environmental impact.
4. The Union should continue to improve its environmental policy as it is a good example to both the community and to the student population.
5. Students want to be informed of environmental issues.
6. That as a high profile university Cardiff should lead by example with regards to environmental issues.
Student Council resolves:
1. To work in partnership with the University in developing and improving its environmental policy.
2. To work in partnership with Union staff such as the Union’s Environmental Task Force in developing and improving its environmental policy.
3. To commit to educating and informing staff and students about environmental issues.
4. To have set clear, specific targets to recycle, reduce emissions and waste, and to continue to do so annually.
5. To carry out an annual environmental audit of the Union and produce a report on the Union’s environmental practices to AGM.
6. To provide support to union societies running environmental campaigns.
7. To improve and clearly label recycling facilities throughout the union.
8. To endeavour to purchase all its energy from renewable resources.
