WHAT HAS THE UNIVERSITY SAID?
On 28 April 2006, Prof. Nigel Palastanga, the Pro-Vice Chancellor for Learning and Teaching send out a communication to all students, the contents of which is printed below:Message to all students from the Pro-Vice Chancellor for Learning and Teaching
Examinations & Assessment
The University remains acutely aware that, in addition to the usual pressure on students who are preparing for examinations and other assessments at this time of the year, the current formal Action Short of a Strike being taken by a small number of our academic staff as part of the national pay dispute is producing additional concerns.
The University regrets that any staff member should feel it necessary or justified to take action which might detrimentally affect students and which might place extra pressure on students at this time.
The dispute can only be solved by negotiation at a national level and the University's Vice-Chancellor, Dr David Grant, has been prominent in calling for talks to take place urgently to bring a rapid settlement to the dispute.
In the meantime, all Cardiff University students can be assured that the University is preparing as usual for the examination period and considering all possible contingencies to facilitate the progression of students. All students should continue with their normal preparations for the examinations they are expecting to take and to adhere to the submission dates for other assessments they may be required to produce.
Should there be any need to put in place alternative arrangements you will be contacted by your School. If this general advice is not applicable in any specific instance, or if you have any further queries, you should contact your School office.
