Housing Booklet 2006 These web pages have been set up to help you when you start thinking about a house for next year. It doesn't mean that you have to rush out and sign up for a house tomorrow. Many students seem to think that if they don't start looking for somewhere to live in January or February for the following year they will not be able to find anywhere. This is not true. There is plenty of housing in Cardiff, although if you're looking for a house for a large number you may have to start a little earlier.

It is very difficult to get out of a contract if you later decide that you don't want the house. If you leave the house hunting until later in the year, the chances of getting stuck in a contract with people you no longer call your friends is greatly reduced. You need time to decide who you really want to live with next year and who you feel you can trust.

This is important because the likelihood is that you will be asked to sign a joint contract. You will also have the upper hand over landlords as they may worry that their properties will not be let and may well reduce their rents.

Before going out on your search for your future home be sure to read the Housing Booklet produced this year by Kate Monaghan, Education Welfare Office and Perri Lewis, gair rhydd Editor.

You can discuss any housing issues or have your contract checked, before signing, by an Adviser in the Advice and Representation Centre on the 3rd Floor Students Union or e-mail Advice@cf.ac.uk
