There has been a re-enactment group affiliated with Cardiff University since 1999, though it has undergone a number of changes in that time.

The original group was known as "Conroy de Burme" and was affiliated with the university for 2 seasons, though is now separate. Cardiff Students then adopted the name "Batal Constentin" for the following 2 seasons. The group concentrated on the Norman invasion and 11th/12th centuries at that time, and members often appeared at Cardiff Castle, as guests of "The Retinue" (which has itself since been dissolved).

At the end of 2002 Batal Constentin ceased to exist, and many ex-members wishing to continue with their Norman re-enactment joined the national Anglo-Norman group "Conquest".

On 12th February 2003 there was a meeting at the Owain Glyndwr pub in Cardiff of previous members of both Batal Constentin and of The Retinue. Thus, the Cardiff Castle Garrison was formed.

The Garrison portrays life during the late 14th century (though many members choose to be 1370 specific). We often invite other different-period groups to join us at our events. It also ties in nicely with other local 14th century groups; allowing us to appear together, en force, creating a very impressive display indeed!
