Big Band
- Did you know Cardiff University has a Big Band?
- Did you know that, now the Big Band is a registered society, we offer
generous DISCOUNTS TO SOCIETIES that want to hire us?
The University Big Band is available for hire! Anything from balls,
fundraising or promotional events, to parties for any kind of occasion
(anyone getting married?!).
We don't just play jazz either. The Big Band has an ever-expanding
collection of music, and ranges from traditional Big Band pieces and
swing, to cheesey cheese (Michael Jackson, Final Countdown, theme from
'Family Guy' etc.), Christmas numbers (ok. a bit late now!), and stuff
that you simply can't describe. And depending on how much notice you give
us for an event, we may even be able to take requests!
Already this year the Band has performed in the Wales Millennium Centre
(Cardiff Bay), at the Red Dragon Centre, accompanied the
Admission:Impossible abseil down the back of the Union, organised their
own charity event raising £550 for Oxfam, performed as part of the 'Jazz
Soceity' concert calendar ...and will once again be playing (music, not
rugby) at the Varsity match later this semester!
If you're interesting in hiring the band for your society event, please
get in contact on bigband@cardiff.ac.uk or through any methods listed on
the 'Contact Us' section of our website:

Nothing beats a live band at an event. And why not get fellow students
involved?!

Act One Event: 'The Comedians'
This Sunday Night CF10 sees the opening of Act One's event, 'The Comedians' by Trevor Griffiths. The play, set in the mid seventies sees six lads trying to beat the milk-round, the building site and the dole que, by making their way to the top through stand up-comedy.'Watch and learn' as the lads attend a night school in Manchester in the art of wit, taught by one of the best Comedians of yesteryear - 'The Lancashire Lad', who for some dark reasons, just isn't funny any more.
Performed by Act One members, they bring a vibrancy and intensity to the play that has been lost in so many of its past performances. Challenging a dated script brings out just how far we've moved forward from the seventies. . . or does it? Innovative, dark and laugh out loud funny, this intriguing event looks to play with its audience (not like that!).
Sunday 29th Oct. - CF10 Cardiff Students Union - Doors Open 7:30pm.
Tickets £4 /£3 Act One.
