Nottingham Tournament

Team: Grace Stimpson, Annett Lloyd Jones, Hannah Coutu-Oughton, Amy Miskell, Matt Cook, Ramzi Barbir, Jon Bell, Simon Golds

The weekend began at the “fresh” time of quarter past 6...quarter past 6 turned into 7oclock as Donna didn't turn up. However she did text us to let us know she didn't feel up to it at around 9.15, so that's around 2hours too late Donna as Grace pointed out as we approached Birmingham!! Nevertheless, we turned up in Nottingham Trent university with an hour to spare and all bright eyed and bushy tailed, some of us still covered in patches of red make-up from the Halloween party the night before! As we entered the sports hall our worries of looking like complete tits vanished as 'Super Ted', a teenage mutant hero turtle (Raphiele I think) and a 118 men walked past us…got your number. We disappeared into the changing rooms and emerged a dodgy lot of Cops and Robbers. We dumped our stuff down and began to warm up for our first match, whilst this was going on someone- mentioning no names, asked whether a bucket could be supplied on the side lines of the court just in case the cheeky beverages of last night decided to come to surface. Sadly, John had to be informed that this would not be possible. So we began our first match against Nottingham 2 in full costume. Approximately 30seconds into the game Annette and I discovered that playing Korfball in a police woman's hat was more difficult than we had initially anticipated. As we tossed our little hats off to the side of the court we had the blokes from the opposite team asking us if the “tops n skirts were coming off an all?” Without hesitation I was able to inform them that on this occasion they would not be. Throughout the game Ramzi kept score of all the results and goal scorers of the tournament, so here are the top scorers…. Ramzi has informed me that although Hannah successfully pulled an impressive 2 blokes at the social, Simon pulled one lucky lady and for an incredible amount of time, thus making him the 'Top Scorer'- well done Simon lad, back of the net!

In true Cardiff style we had out tea in the surroundings of a classy kebab shop in Lentin. Lentin being the area which we were staying in, not the name of the person we were staying with, as Annett thought. Annett this is why your nickname is 'Im a Retard', however the fact that you ate a 10inch pizza and half of mine and some chips is why we have also named you 'I'm a Chump'!! Some of the team were already in the pub, so we went to meet them. As we entered the pub we were welcomed by a rather “merry” Grace. Things had certainly been cranked up a notch, this was helped by vodka flavoured shots for a pound, jellybean, candyfloss and even chilli flavour (yuck!). By around 9.30 we were at the social with all the other players. We were pleased to hear the familiar chants of Halam university which filled the pub as we entered the building, it also filled are hearts…honest! No one wanted to kick their face in!! In a nutshell the evening included much, much drinkage, dancing (of the Beyonce variety) and general drunken antics!! Ramzi was so excited by the whole affair that he had to be woken up half way through the evening. The evening finished up at around silly oclock and we all danced/staggered are way to the taxi rank. The morning after the night before We all surfaced at 11.30, we were not quite the beautiful people!! However, making the best out of a bad situation we decided to break up our journey and visit CADBURY WORLD in Birmingham. As I was hoping (being a Cadbury World virgin) it was the purple chocolate smelling heaven I had always imagined…. disappointingly no umpa lump's though!! Our tour came to an end and we were back to the harsh reality of the mini bus home. Matt managed to get us home safe and sound, when I say home I mean straight to Talybont sports hall for training!!!! Needless to say we were not fresh faced and bushy tailed….oh well no rest for the wicked.
