Korf, Curry and Cocktails- The very manly social

by Bren Coopey

With an approaching game against Cardiff City, our rivals, a night out was in order and Amy, as Social Secretary, consequently organised a meal for the team, followed plenty of drinks. Ok, I'll be honest, that's bull, we are just alcoholics who don't need an excuse, but it sounded good.
Meeting at central Wetherspoon's at 7:30pm, we entered the 'quieter' Wetherspoon's to find it packed out with late-night shoppers and all those fans of that person who used to be in Steps who switched on the Christmas lights- he was at a table all alone. Obviously 'Curry Night' was quite popular and others besides struggling students had flocked for a curry and a drink for £3.99. Who can blame them?

Like the SAS our mission began to find enough tables to seat everybody- Jack secured a table practically on top of the bar for several people whilst others went further a field, with Dave being beaten to a table by an old lady (she had a stick, he was scared to argue) before we all found seats. One group obtained a booth that could comfortably seat 4, so 7 of us jumped in- who needs elbow room anyway?

Already onto the fifth pint before we ordered (ok, maybe that was just me) we all chatted about various subjects- Nathan and Steve continued to laugh about having the Red Bull fridge in their house, Steve Fong continued to plan the next social event at his house, bad jokes were told and even Korfball was discussed. Finally the curries arrived, with Sarah buying extra poppadoms for our table (who says you can't buy friends?) and Michael braving the hottest they had-which he found adequate enough.

With the curries finished, we assessed the night. We had about 15 people but only 3 girls, we had plenty of lager and beer drinkers and we were poor students; the answer was obvious- go to Henry's on a Thursday night, on ladies night.

Yes, a whole group of men walked into Henry's and proved our manliness by asking the girls to go up for our drinks and then we drank cocktails. The most popular choice was the Daiquiri, a slushy fruit drink available in several forms, including strawberry and raspberry. Ramzi was not going to have any of it since Daiquiri's were not a proper drink in his view- Ramzi went hardcore with a Pina Coladda.

At 11:30 we were finally kicked out of Henry's so headed home, via a little place called InnCognito. Yes, we would not be stopped yet as we paid £2.50 a pint and sat in comfy leather chairs, with Dave and Steve giving us a bit of Jackanory- by using a discarded issue of Cosmo to tell us our horoscopes.

It was a night made up of mainly male korfers, it was a night of cocktails, a night of cosmopolitan- it was, in truth, a ladies night, but oh what a night!
