First Team Match Summaryby Bren Coopey
Our first game with our big rivals had arrived and the odds were on that Cardiff would win. One of the Cardiff teams had to.
The game started fast with both teams making chances that came close, with long shots clipping the basket and running-in shots almost making the difference. It wasn't until 10 minutes into the game that City managed to capitalise and scored two in quick succession. With our supporters egging Uni on, Joey managed to find an opening and performed a superb running in shot to close the gap. Unfortunately City's experience allowed them to return with three more goals before half-time, leaving Uni trailing 5-1.
When the game re-started City soon scored another, but Uni created several openings in an attempt to quell the growing gap. Ramzi managed to lose his man for a clear running-in shot that rolled over the basket and followed this up with three long shots that were just a fraction off target. The bad luck wasn't all one way, as City saw a good attempt fall into the basket and annoying (for them at least) bounce out. City soon got their eye in, with more and more shots going close despite excellent defending by Uni. It wasn't long before City created more goals, with two long shots hardly touching the basket as they dipped in. City also grabbed a running-in shot to give them an 8-1 lead.
Uni refused to give in and found several good opportunities. Iwan found himself repeatedly running in and seeing his shots roll off the top of the basket, whilst Captain Craig and both of the Amys saw long attempts narrowly missing. City almost grabbed their ninth goal when the ball flew into the net only to be denied when the shot was called as being defended. When City did grab another goal with a long throw Uni retaliated via Classic Ramzi- a dipping long shot just in front of the halfway line allowed Ramzi to hold onto the title of Long-range Queen er .King.
Despite some more close efforts from all of Uni's players, City managed to find goals twice more to end the game 11-2. The Uni team would have obviously taken them out in a fight, but were too tired so sportingly gave their opponents three loud cheers.

Second (A) Team Match Summaryby Bren Coopey
The first of the second teams was made up of two types of players; those with Korfball experience and Steve, who is already becoming a legend not through his Korfball skills, which are good, but through his water bottle- a Bacardi bottle.
The game began with City gaining an immediate advantage as they scored an impressive long shot. Not to be outdone, Captain Matt copied their style with a long shot of his own that encouraged an impressive cheer from the sidelines. Hope was still among the Cardiff supporters, but this soon turned to despair when City gained a penalty shot. Hope was returned when the shot missed, but despair reared its ugly head once more as City grabbed the rebound and sunk the shot. Yes, it was an emotional rollercoaster for the fans as we saw City take the lead.
Play continued with both defences holding tight, so tight that Jack saw a goal disallowed- we all believe that their defenders must have had their arms stretched. The close of the half saw one last close attempt, as City got confused and kicked the ball, creating a free shot. Owen took charge and saw his shot clip the basket and fall the wrong way- yet he still kept smiling that cheeky smile. The half ended with City in the lead 2-1.
As the second half began City seemed more motivated, no doubt a side-effect of the lucazade they drank and soon produced two more goals. Yet it seems they underestimated Steve, probably believing him to be an alcoholic, as they left him open enough for a long shot from the half-way line that slipped easily through the basket. City retaliated with two more goals and fate smiled upon them as they were awarded three more penalty shots, but fortunately we had paid off fate and all their penalties missed. This time no rebound was available as we jumped all over the ball (not literally obviously) and once again they underestimated our resident alcoholic who performed a text book running-in shot to decrease their lead. A final goal emerged just before the final whistle as our guest player Kristina fired a mighty long shot, yet another defeat was handed to Uni as we lost 6-4. Despite the loss, there were still smiles all round, particularly from Steve- was he happy that he scored twice or was he plain drunk?

Second (B) Team Match SummaryBy Bren Coopey
The final game was played by the most inexperienced players of Uni who nicknamed themselves the special team. With only a years worth of training between them, Uni started strong and seemed to impress their peers. The defence was solid for the first ten minutes despite Lou being shocked to be hit on the head with the ball twice in one minute. The attack constantly moved, trying to find any opening. Liz tried a running-in shot that came close and Bren intercepted a poor pass from City's defenders for a snap shot that skimmed the top of the basket.
City finally found an opportunity to score and did so with a running-in shot. Team Captain Sarah tried to recreate their attack with a running-in shot of her own but she watched in misery as the ball tilted on the edge of the basket but leaned the wrong way for City to counter-attack, in which City broke the Uni defence for a second time to give them a 2-0 lead. Lou threatened their lead with a mid-range shot that bounced out of the basket. City soon scored another 2 goals, but Uni never gives up- unless they are going to miss last orders at the local. As the end of the first half approached Uni's defence blocked City out, with Michael ruining the City coach's game by owning him- not literally of course. The attack came close with several mid-range and long shots, but failed to find the basket despite Bren and Sarah coming close.
When the half-time whistle blew, Uni were 4-0 down but for some reason they all continued to smile between gasps for breath. Had Steve shared his magic sauce? Or were they just pleased with their promising performance?
The second half proved exciting to watch and to play, but to cut a long story short, no more goals were scored. Despite some excellent attacks by Uni, nobody found any goals. Dave, Bren, Sarah and Liz all had some close opportunities that were either defended or were an agony to watch as the ball rolled around the basket then fell the wrong way. Comedy moments also crept into the game, as Dave ended up falling but keeping hold of the ball and Bren chasing a low ball around the court- the ref watched him and then called it out anyway. Yet City were completely denied by a defence that had become unified in their task and who worked together like a well-oiled object that is repeatedly oiled. The game ended 4-0 to City, but if you only count the second half, it was a no score draw.
