HOCKEY SOCIAL EVENTS
As we are not all about playing hard, we as a committee organise many social events to keep you guys entertained.These will include mixed socials with the guys, and events organised within the AU.
Here is a brief outline of what we plan to do this year...
BUDDIES NIGHT
This has proven to be a popular night where we pair each fresher up with an old girl, and they have to try and match each other drink for drink. It's a great opportunity to meet the second and third years and to learn more about the club.
There has been many a casualty during this night, as our Chairwoman Gen!!
We plan to hold this evening early October.
INITIATION
Most freshers seem to be a bit scared of this evening, but it is nothing to worry about. Just ask any second years and they'll tell you that they had fun. It will all remin hush-hush until you get to the Blackweir, in order to make it a surprise. Plenty of games and loads more drinking to be done though, and should be held by the end of October.
AU ANNUAL AUCTION
This is an annual event held in Rubber Duck to raise money for charity. The aim is for all the sports teams to perform a dance or something, and then auctioned off to the highest bidder. Last year, the "dancers" of the club performed a rather risque interpretation of Lady Marmalade.
This is always a themed night, with "Bling" being the theme for last year. As our secretary Bethan was also AU Vice President, she hosted the event and was an awesome night.
Slave auction will be held sometime in November.
CHRISTMAS DINNER
Although this is our christmas meal, it is normally held at the end of November. This is a girls only night out, which is also themed. Themes in the past have included children's party, "S" party, orange, and we had classic costumes that included Santas, Snow White, a spy, a smurf and even a sperm!
AU SPORTS BALL (December)
This is a black tie event for all the sports teams held in Cardiff International Arena. It includes a 3-course meal, a band and a DJ, fairgrounds rides and much more. We have pre-ball cocktails every year, and is always a great event.
HOCKEY BALL (March)
This is our last main event of the year, usually held at the Hanover International Hotel. This is a mixed event, with again a 3-course meal, wine and a DJ. This is also our awards dinner, at which we give out Fresher of the year, players of the year, Club Woman of the year, and many more. This is another chance to dress up to the nines as it's also a black tie event.
TOUR (June)
Probably the best event of the year! This involves going to normally either Belgium or Holland to play a bit of hockey, but with more drinking. We travel by bus to the tournaments and then camp together for about 4 days. It is great value, and you get your own tour shirt, and meet people you may not have met during the rest of the year. Ask any of the old girls about tour, and you will hear some great stories!! Hopefully this year noone will get arrested!!
