Cardiff Mens vs Exeter University
26th October, 2005Cardiff Mens Fencing team, playing at home, defeated Exeter 135 points to
68. All three weapons (foil, epee and sabre) were fenced and the entire
team gave a very good account of themselves.
The match began with Epee. Exeter put up a spirited performance, but
Cardiff held firm to win this weapon 45 points to Exeter's 30, Exeter
being let down by Smith who was unable to score a single hit on the
Cardiff fencers.
Next came the sabre. Cardiff's sabre team has been consistently strong and
lived up to their reputation, gaining 45 points and only conceding 20 to
Exeter. Markall of the sabre team did particularly well, defeating all his
opponents and only conceding three points.
Finally Cardiff's foil team took to the piste. A storming performance by
Cardiff left the opposition decimated, winning 45 points to just 18. All
three members of the team excelled themselves, resulting in a very strong
overall victory for Cardiff.
