Outdoor BUSA Season 2005

Cardiff 74 all out v. Camb 202-4

We went into the match quite unprepared due to a lack of any other matches. Fin won the toss and asked Camb to bat. Three early wickets fell giving Cardiff some hope but Camb produced a stand of 133 runs and were unstoppable. Megan proved the most economical bowler with figures of 2-16. Louise and Helen took the other wickets.

Megan was also star of the match in Cardiff's innings staying in for 33 overs, ending with a score of 28. Camb bowling was too tight and it was hard to find any gaps in their fielding. However, Caridff did manage to stay in for nearly the whole innings which could be seen as an improvement from previous matches.

Exeter 72 v. Cardiff 73

I don't really know what happened here as I wasn't there, but I heard it was a thrilling match. Cardiff had some un-moveable batsmen which frustrated Exeter. To win Cardiff needed a run off the last ball of the innings, which happened.

If anyone has any more details please let me know!
Outdoor BUSA Season 2004

Final v. Leeds

Woohoo! We were there-much to our amazement! It looked like it might rain, but I abstained from doing my rain dance and the sun started shining. We finally found the ground, with Dannii nearly wetting herself and me close to sickness. After a hasty warm up we were sent in to field after losing the toss. Leeds looked confident with the bat and it wasn't until the 13th over that a wicket finally fell. The fielding was tight and there was even a few dives going on (even I was running and diving! Shock horror-I didn't realise I'd dived til I hit the floor and was stunned!). Leeds' skipper proved to be impossible to move and ended not out on 51. Mezz took a wicket with the last ball off the innings.

After tea it was our turn to bat. Katy fell in the first over, with 4 of our top 5 order out within 6 overs. CAt was still in but looking for a solid partner to help get some runs on the board. This came in the form of little Beth who amazed us all with her first shot that went for 4! And she's never played before! Cat was bowled out (and then we started getting nervous!). Beth and Mezz managed to keep the runs going, but it was only a matter of time before Beth finally went to an lbw appeal. The bottom order assisted Mezz but were unable to stay with such a precise bowling attack.

FINAL SCORE: Leeds 145-6 (Hobbit 6.0.28.2, Mezz 6.0.2.29), Cardiff 70 all out. (Cat 31, Beth, Mezz 11)

Quarter Final v. Southampton

More rain meant that this match looked doubtful. However, the unpires decided it was ok to play on, and so the captains tossed. We lost again and were sent in to bat. This proved to be a costly mistake for Southamton. Cat was in fine form, partnered by Katy who ably assisted Cat to maintain a high run rate. Katy and Glover were both caught out, leaving the Cardiff team in despair. However, Laura, Mezz and Rhian proved to be stable partners for Cat allowing her to reach her highest ever score 97 not out, including 12 boundaries.

By the time Cardiff had to field the sun had come out, and then grass was beginning to dry making it easier for all in the field. The fielding was tight and only one boundary was conceded in the whole 30 overs. Mezz took 3 wickets, with Cat and Laura taking 2 each. Katy provided a direct hit to send another batsmen on her way back.

FINAL SCORE: Cardiff 142-4, Southampton 94 all out

Figures: Mezz 3-17, Cat 2-17. Laura 2-4.

Cardiff 125-4, Bath 53 all out

Our season finally got under way after one walkover, and two matches being rained off. After losing the toss, we were sent into bat by the oppostition. Katy Lee had an explosive start, but was soon caught out in the third over. Dannii was next into bat but soon fell after being straight bowled. Finola was next in, and proved to be a solid partner alongside Cat. Kirstern also gave Cat company as she hit the Bath bowling attack all around the park. Laura Piper put on a solid display, and she and Cat managed to bat out until the end of the innings, with Laura ending on 11 runs, and Cat reaching a magnificent 70 (including 9 boundaries).

We proved to have a solid bowling side, with no-one in the opposition showing any serious threat of taking the match away from us. Both Kirstern and Cat had tidy spells, both claiming vital wickets. Cat ended with figures of 5 for 22, with Kirstern on 2 for 24. Dannii finished off the opposition with her 2 overs, and claimed 2 wickets and only conceding 4 runs. Bath were all out after 17 overs.

INDOOR BUSA @ LORDS 28/02/04

Hey Ladies! Just a quick run down of what happened at our indoor BUSA matches in case you couldn't get there - or didn't understand a thing LYDIA!. Cat mave a good draw in her sudden position of Vice Captain - dut to the fact that most the team were lost in central London - next time take a map u losers! We were drawn against Southampton Uni, Southampton Institute and UCL.

Wish I could say that it all went well but we unfortunately lost our first 2 matches to the Southampton teams - mainly due to the fact of 3 runs a wide! Who's idea is that, it's ridiculous!

After some inspirational alcohol consumtion by both Stiletto and Daddy Stiletto at midday, the team started on their winning streak that was set to last a lifetime (if we hadn't have only had one game left!). We beat UCL with a few overs to spare (when you're only playing 8 over innings that's quite an acheivement!). Have to say there scorer wasn't most amused-whilst I sat there chucking because the alcohol was having an affect. Never climb up and down a ladder after a drink-too confusing!

I don't know which team won overall because we decided to go find the youth hostel - cue the girls in the AU car getting lost again! I was slightly over excited at the sight of the Portland Hospital where Posh had her babies.
After settling in 4* luxury we hit the pub for food where Cath T ate loads-where the hell does she put it??

Decisions had to be made about whether we went into London or stayed at the hostel bar. Sorry ladies for being a lightweight but I couldn't handle a trek to Soho.

After a peaceful hours sleep the Cat and I are rudely woken up by the Hobbit and her amusing story that took about an hour to tell - hence the name MUTE! Katy and Dannii then retuned with tales of a bike and cutting up the streets of London. They then decided to get in bed with every member of the team leading to a group booking with a psychiatrist to restore us all to our former sane selves.

Have to say that a good weekend was had by all! Maybe next time we should concentrate on the cricket and not the booze (listen to Stiletto, you know she talks perfect sense!).

ps- I don't think there was any sickness!
