First Team Match Summaryby Ramzi Barbir, dedicated to Donna's extraordinary skills, and the tenner she gave me (KAAAACHING)

Donna's level of game and tactics were incredible, she single handedly lead the team from start to finish and scored ALL the goals for Cardiff University. She was a true leader and a great example to follow for all freshers and experienced players alike.

Second Team Match Summaryby Bren Coopey

In their first match of the season Cardiff University's second team faced tough opposition against a far more experienced Horfield team. In spite of the fact that many of our players were partaking in their first match, hope was high and we were more than up for the challenge. We would move fast then slow, duck down low, stay aware and work as a team; all to get there in time past an array of speed cameras and police cars.

Arriving safely and with the drivers cursing the amount of speed cameras, the team warmed-up quickly as the start of the match approached. When the game began, Cardiff found themselves lacking in experience but making up for it with determination, enthusiasm and youth. Whilst Donna and Craig provided support at the sidelines the team began to gel together, with passing slowly improving and every shot getting closer. The closest shot belonged to Amy, whose shot found the basket and slipped through it- hang on, that's not just a shot, that's a goal. Amy's long shot had appeared from nothing and suddenly Cardiff found themselves in the lead and having to defend heavily.

Horfield piled on the pressure, no doubt urged on by their frantic coach, who also seemed to be the cheerleading squad, given the amount of arm-waving from the sidelines. Our four weeks of training helped us block their players out for a long time but Horfield managed to grab an equaliser-which probably stopped their coach's head from exploding.

A couple of fresh players later the scored remained the same, with both teams trying to take the lead in a very tight game. With Horfield producing more chances it wasn't surprising that they scored again, taking the score to 2-1 in their favour. As the end of a closely-fought match approached, Cardiff remained determined and when Liz found herself unmarked for a fraction of a second, she became the first of the team's beginners to score outside of training- she won't be the last, obviously.

When the whistle blew just minutes later, the score was 2-2 and Cardiff's second team had made their peers proud with a good first result against a far-more experienced team. During the usual back-slapping, the Horfield players were shocked to hear that most of our second team had been training for only 4 weeks, which not only made us smile but also gives us an advantage during our next game- unless they figure out how to raise their jaws from the floor.
