City of Cardiff Concert Band
The University Wind Band Society is a fairly large society, with around 80 active members. We give wind, brass and percussion players the opportunity to continue playing whilst at Cardiff.The society is based around our large symphonic wind band; 'The City of Cardiff Concert Band'. We play to a very high level and perform regular concerts throughout the year covering as many genres of music as possible. We also aim to help to set up smaller ensembles, such as brass/wind quintets or jazz groups and provide opportunities for these groups to perform.
We will also arrange as many social events as possible, eg. pub crawls, nights out, trips to concerts etc. Last Easter we went to Dublin on tour and this Easter, we're off to Nantes in France! Rhys will once again be doing a blog and podcast in association with Xpress Radio. See the events page for more details.
Rehearsals are held at Crwys Road Methodist Church (opposite Domino's pizza) every Wednesday in term time between 6.30pm and 9:00pm.
Society Membership
The band and society are open to anyone, regardless of experience or level of playing, although we do recommend a minimum of grade 5 for the band. If you are interested in joining, contact us here or just come along to one of our rehearsals. Membership is £10 for the year but we dont expect you to pay this until you've given us a try.
