Cardiff Student Jazz Society: Bands

Imperfect Tenth

The Cardiff University Big Band
The Cardiff University Big Band is a slightly larger sized band and play all types of music from traditional Big Band pieces and swing, to cheesey cheese (Michael Jackson, Final Countdown etc.), Christmas numbers, and stuff that you simply can't describe! detox
detox are a new welsh jazz quintet, formed from experienced musicians who have played small and big band jazz all over south wales. They play an eclectic mix of music from the 1950's to the current era.

Previously branded 'Monkwise', pianist Mark Sambell, bassist Iestyn Jones, and drummer John Jones make up this young piano trio who will deliver a handful of bop, originals and suprises. Contact Mark Sambell.

The Memphis Six
Founded in 1971 and still including three founder members, the band has accompanied many British and American professional jazz musicians with their repertoire of Blues, Marches, Ragtime and Ballads. Contact Roy Davies for more information.

The Jones O'Connor Group
One of the most exciting bands on the music scene today, influenced by the best forward-looking European jazz groups such as the Cinematic Orchestra. The Dominic Norcross Quartet
The Dominic Norcross Quartet is a jazz unit playing a range of exciting numbers by Miles Davis, Oliver Nelson, Horace Silver, Gerry Mulligan, McCoy Tyner, and many others. Sax player Dominic leads the band, Johnny Davies plays guitar, Nigel Williams (ex Georgie Fame band) plays drums while Wayne Warlow plays bass. For more information, visit their myspace page here.

The Steve Coombe Qrt+2
Steve's latest piano led quartet play quirky re-workings of modern standards influenced by Chick Corea, Uri Caine, Herbie Hancock, Ramon Valle and Stevie Wonder.
