WHAT IS DEBATING?
CUDS (Cardiff University Debating Society) offers a unique opportunity to have lots of fun, whilst gaining invaluable skills along the way. Debating looks brilliant on your CV as it indicates that you can argue cogently and persuasively. You are guaranteed to increase your confidence in all areas of public speaking and to sharpen your speaking abilities, which are useful for you entire life. You will be able to argue over a wide spectrum of topics, ranging from very contentious ethical and political issues, such as legalising prostitution or drugs, down to fun and silly things, including whether there really is a Santa Claus!
We debate in British Parliamentary style, similar to what you see in the House of Commons. If you fancy yourself as a bit of a Tony Blair or Michael Howard, this is the Society for you! Debating really is for everyone, whether you want to just listen and enjoy, or stand up and speak, CUDS has something to offer. If you want to take debating further, you can compete against other universities, nationally and internationally. 'Worlds' this year are in Malaysia- what more persuasion do you need?!

DEBATING ISN'T JUST ABOUT FINDING AN EXCUSE TO ARGUE, there is also a large social side to it, usually involving lots (and we mean LOTS!) of free alcohol.
