Within the Garrison you will be able to learn about and participate in a wide range of archery activities, which will be used in training sessions and in our summer shows. Initially you will learn how to achieve the correct stance, how to shoot and how to maintain archery equipment, such as the arrows used.
Over the training sessions a range of activities will be explored which will increase your skill as an archer and hopefully be fun! These will include:
- Flat target shooting with blunted arrows.
- Shooting to call
- Shooting from a range of distances
- Fletching and kit maintenance sessions
Once you have mastered the basics a wider range of activities can be participated in, at training sessions and at shows, such as:
- Shooting sharps
- Speed shooting
- 45 degree shooting
- Learning to shoot other types of bow, such a crossbow under close supervision!
- Shooting in medieval battles at armoured knights!
- Taking part in displays
- Helping the public learn to shoot on our Have-A-Go Archery.
There will also be the opportunity to learn about various types of arrowheads, bows and how the archer was used in medieval warfare and society.
