07/05/08 - NIGHT OF SUCCESS FOR THE BIG BAND

As well as performing at the Society Awards on 26th April, the Big Band came home with a couple of awards themselves - runner-up for 'Best Musical Performance' (Oxjam), and also runner-up for Best Webpage (this site!). These build on the awards won by the society last year, which was our first year as a society, where we won 'Best Website' and runner-up 'Best New Society'. 19/03/08 - NEW MUSICAL DIRECTOR
After the Easter vacation, Mike Sims shall be taking over the position of 'Musical Director' of the Big Band. Andy Farquharson, who has held the position for the past 3 years, has stepped down due to starting a new job working for The Walt Disney Company. He'll be working closely with Mike over the next few months, so you haven't quite seen the last of him yet! Congratulations to Mike, and good luck!18/02/08 - UPDATES

04/04/07 - WELSH PROMS 2007
The Big Band have been invited to perform at the annual Welsh Proms that take place every year in St David's Hall, Cardiff.The Proms run from 19-28 July, and the Band will be providing the pre-concert entertainment to the 'Jazz Prom' on 25th July.

25/02/07 - BIG BAND AT THE SOCIETY AWARDS 2007
Last night, as well as performing a fantastic funk and cheese set with superb vocals by James Grindle at the Society Awards in Solus...the Big Band won the 'Best Website 2007' award (for the website you are looking at now!). We also got runner-up for the 'Best New Society' award too. So thanks to everyone that voted, and came along to show their support for the band.27/01/07 - NEXT REHEARSAL, TOUR STUFF, ETC
Just a quick reminder that the next rehearsal will be on 1st February because of the exam period. Same time, same place as always. Any polo shirts not collected yet will be brought along to the rehearsal too.Tour meeting on Wednesday 31st January from 1:00pm-2:00pm in the Large Lecture Theatre of the School of Music.
The next installment for the tour (£65) will be due the following day at the rehearsal - but you can pay it at the meeting if you want.
08/01/07 - POLO SHIRTS

01/12/06 - Jazz Society Jingles
The Jazz Society Radio Show (hosted by their President, Rhys Phillips) jingles that the Big Band recorded are now online if you want to listen to them. Not only is the Band playing the music, but Hannah Bostock (Alto Sax) does the voiceover.How multi-talented is she?!?!
When opening the files, enter 'bigband' as the username, and 'thursday' as the password (all small letters, without quotes).

27/11/06 - Polo Shirts
It's about time, I've decided (and others!), the Big Band got some polo shirts made. Not necessarily for gigs (as we can't force you to buy them), but just to look cool/cooler than we do already (and to take on a tour that I'm planning at the moment....!).I've phoned round a few places, and this is what we can offer:
- Black polo shirt
- Front:
Cardiff University logo (the red one) embroidered on the front right as you look at it
Big Band logo (when we have a design from someone!) embroidered on the front left as you look at it, with your name below (again, embroidered) - Back:
Large 'rugby' style printing on the back, with your name/nickname, and number of your choice
....and all for around £12.
