Welcome to Cardiff Students' Societies. My name is Sally Airey and I am the elected Societies' Officer this year in the Students' Union. My job is to represent all members of Societies within the Students' Union, the University and the local community.
Here at Cardiff, we have over 120 Societies affiliated to the Students' Union. The Society community offers a lively and vibrant experience throughout your studies, whether you are an Undergraduate, Postgraduate, UK or International Student. Our individual Societies offer a very diverse range of events, activities and interests. Whether you like live music or archaeology, photography or sci-fi, we have something for everyone!
Importantly, our Societies are run by students, for students. This means that every Society is student friendly and tailored especially to Cardiff students' needs and wants. Year upon year, our Societies put on spectacular displays of talent and commitment within the Union and local community. We have music, theatre, fundraising, dance, cultural events, debating, extreme outdoor activites, careers events, flashmobbing, workshops, forums, bellringing and much, much more!
Joining a Society is easy and, while it provides new and challenging experiences, it is also a great opportunity to meet new and exciting people with similar interests. Societies promise to enrich your experience at Cardiff University.
EVENTS:
Throughout the year, there are some calendar events including the Societies Fayre where students can browse many Society stalls and sign-up and the beginning of the academic year. Other events include Societies' Council, the AGM, GO GLOBAL and the Societies' Awards at the end of the year.
SOCIETIES' AREA:
The Societies' Area is located on the 3rd floor of the Students' Union. To find this, wander through the TV Lounge, where the Society noticeboards can be found, and take a left when you are through the double doors. The Societies' Area is supplied with event information, computers, Society pigeon holes, a Society phone line and staff on hand to help out.
CONTACT US:
Email us at societyinfo@cardiff.ac.uk for general information and queries. To contact a Society directly, visit the Society Listing page for more information.
Finally, I encourage you to get involved with Societies as it is a truly rewarding experience and encourages personal and social development throughout you time here. If you think there is a gap in our extensive range of Societies, you can always set up a new Society for the next academic year. All you need is 20 interested students and a committee!
Best of luck with your year, I look forward to meeting you all soon,
Sally Airey
Societies, Postgraduate and International Officer
