Athletic Union

The Athletic Union is the body that supports all sporting activity at Cardiff University Students' Union. We support students that run over 60 sports clubs including individual and team sports, outdoor and water sports and martial arts. There really is something for everyone whether you are to keep fit, compete, learn something new, or just enjoy yourself.
The AU also runs a number of recreational sporting leagues, including 11-a-side and 7-a -side football and netball, providing weekly fixtures for teams from your course, hall, or society.

Run by students, for students
Athletic Union Sports Clubs are run by students, for students. We've over 60 to choose from including individual and team sports like Tennis, Squash, Football and Netball. We also have a large variety of outdoor and watersports including Mountaineering, Caving, Kayaking and Sub Aqua. That's not all, then there's even more including Clay Pigeon Shooting, Dance, Yoga and a host of martial arts groups. Each club is different, so take a look at what suits you, but all will have an active sporting and social calendar.
Cardiff IMG
The Athletic Union runs a number of sports programmes in conjunction with Cardiff University Sport. There is a very active 11-a-side and 7-a-side Football league and a Netball league, where fixtures are played weekly. You can either get a group of friends together to form a team, or you can look at joining one of the existing teams and many are keen to take on board new players. We've also host a number of leagues and events in other sports including Squash, Tennis, Badminton and Dodgeball.

Welsh Varsity
Join over 20,000 fellow students on the 24th April as they take front row seats at the Millennium Stadium to watch the future stars of international rugby do battle to bring home the Varsity Cup. The atmosphere in 2012 was electric - don't miss your chance to cheer on your University. Past student players have gone on to play for the Cardiff Blues, Ospreys, Llanelli Scarlets and even internationally for Wales so expect a high standard on the field.
Welsh Varsity started out 17 years ago as a rugby match between Cardiff University students and Swansea University students. Today it's so much more than that. Welsh Varsity has become a whole day of events, with teams competing against each other in over 20 sports to represent their university.
Tickets for the rugby match at the Millennium Stadium are £12.50 and are on sale from the 14th February at the Union Box Office. If you're not based in Cardiff, you can buy tickets over the phone by calling 029 2078 1458. Seating at the Stadium is allocated when you buy your ticket, so if you and your friends want to sit together, make sure you buy your tickets in one transaction.
Package deals: Get a rugby ticket, official t-shirt and after-party ticket for only £20. These packages sell out quickly so don't leave it too late to buy!
Entry to the day games is free, just head along to the Welsh Institute of Sport and get ready for some serious cheering!

The Man of the Match Award is proudly sponsored by the RAF
The Royal Air Force Careers and Recruiting Organisation is proud to announce that it has entered into an agreement with the Welsh Varsity to sponsor the Varsity Rugby Match and specifically the sponsorship of the Man of the Match Award. This has culminated in a sponsorship and partnership agreement being approved covering the next three years. This partnership forges a bond between organisations with a proud heritage and rich historical traditions. Links between the Royal Air Force and Universities can be traced back to the origins of the Royal Air Force at its inception in 1918 and this agreement cements yet another momentous partnership between two high profile organisations.

The Royal Air Force offers over 50 different employment opportunities and continues to actively recruit despite the economic downturn. The RAF is recruiting continuously with salaries starting at £13k for airmen trades and £22k for commissioned branches; with sports and fitness playing a key role in employee development. The Royal Air Force is currently recruiting physically robust, highly motivated, dependable, honest, intelligent and independent individuals.
