Your Vice President for PG students, Sean Strong, has secured funding to run another highly subsidised trip, exclusively for Postgraduate students.

The price of this trip has been slashed to allow as many people as possible to benefit, meaning we can offer this for just £10!

Tickets will go on sale on 4th June at 6pm. We expect this trip to be popular and recommend purchasing at this time. Previous tickets have sold out almost instantly.

Before purchasing, please ensure you’re able to attend, as tickets are heavily subsidised and availability is limited. Our aim is to help as many students as possible benefit from this funding. If your plans change, just let us know by the deadline below so that someone else can enjoy the trip. To help us manage these funded opportunities fairly, participants who do not attend without giving notice will be unable to book future funded trips.

To come to Bath is to take a step back in time to Quintessential England. Named after the Roman baths and natural hot springs, high society has been flocking to this refined city for centuries. You can visit one of the most famous Georgian properties, the Royal Crescent, built in the rich warmth of Bath stone. Yet, you might know Bath for its Roman Baths; spectacularly preserved, with over 2,000 years of history, you can walk in the footsteps of our predecessors. But Bath isn’t just for history buff’s; visit Bath’s rooftop thermal spa, indulge in some retail therapy or try a Bath bunn in Sally Lunn’s world-renowned tea house. This beautiful city is small enough to see in a day, but inspiring enough that it will remain large in your heart.

On the day of our trip is Bath Carnival, an annual celebration of culture with vibrant displays and festivities from over the world. All day there will be a live bands, walkabout acts and food and drink stalls in one of the city gardens. When you’re not relaxing in the gardens and taking in the atmosphere, this will be a great time to visit Bath’s many attractions. The highlight is the parade throughout the city centre, with music, costumes, dancers, floats and all the fun of the fair! This trip includes coach travel, suggestions of ways to spend your day and a trip leader, who will not stay with the group but can provide support if needed. There’s plenty to do in Bath for free but if you wish to enter attractions, this would be at your own cost. We strongly suggest booking tickets to the Roman Bath in advance if you wish to visit.

Tickets are heavily subsidised & limited, so we want to ensure that as many people as possible are able to benefit from this trip.

If you can no-longer attend, you must notify Give it a Go via email by 3pm on 10th July, so that we can offer your space to someone else who can benefit. Whilst we will be unable to offer a refund, this ensures that you can attend any potential future funded Give it a Go trips. Our email address is Giveitago@cardiff.ac.uk and this is the only way to notify us of a cancellation. If you do not notify us, or you notify us after the deadline, you will be unable to attend future funded and discounted Give it a Go trips.

If you have previously no-showed for a Give it a Go funded trip in 2026, you will not be able to attend. Whilst you may be able to purchase a ticket, this will not be valid. Give it a Go will contact you prior to the trip to confirm the removal of your ticket and a refund will be issued. Our decision is final.
The times listed on the event are from when the coach will leave the Student Union in the morning, until an approximate arrival back to Cardiff. You will be asked to arrive 15 minutes prior to departure, for boarding, in order to ensure the coach leaves on time. Arrival times back in Cardiff are subject to traffic, weather and road conditions, which are beyond our control, so we cannot guarantee exact time of arrival.
The trips will go ahead regardless of weather conditions - please do come prepared. However, if we believe that it would be a better experience, we may change the location of the trip to somewhere with better weather/more indoor attractions. In this situation, this would be communicated via email and would you be given the option of a refund should you not wish to attend the new destination. In extreme or dangerous weather, where there is no suitable alternative, we would of course cancel for your safety.
In the event we cancel a trip for any reason, you would be offered the option between a full refund or a rescheduled date (where it is possible to reschedule).
If you will not be catching the outbound coach (Cardiff to the destination), please email giveitago@cardiff.ac.uk no later than the last working day before the trip at 5pm. If you will not be catching the return coach (destination to Cardiff), please let your trip leader know. If you do not do this on either journey, your seat may be forfeited and you will not receive a refund. For the avoidance of doubt, the last working day of the trip is the Friday immediately prior, unless that Friday is a bank holiday, in which case it would be the day prior.

Tenby is one of the most famous towns in South Wales and for a reason! Escape city life and breathe in the fresh sea air in this charming coastal town. The colourful houses on the seafront radiate a vintage opulence, whilst the clear waters will whisk you straight to the Mediterranean. Yet, at its heart, this is a classic British resort town that’s withstood the test of time. Alongside the ice cream kiosks and fudge parlours, you’ll find a traditional arcade and grand church, which has been serving the people of Tenby since the 1200s.

The first 80 tickets are available at £159 until 19^th November @ 4pm.
After 80 tickets have sold, or after 19^th November @ 4pm (whichever comes first), remaining tickets will increase to £179.

Scotland - the land of tartan, highland games and deep fried mars bars - is a must visit, and Edinburgh is a jewel in the crown. Despite being a capital city, Edinburgh is compact and easy to explore with plenty of adventures awaiting! Highlights include Edinburgh Castle, one of the oldest fortified sites in Europe; Arthur’s Seat, an extinct volcano in the heart of the city, offering spectacular views over the landscape, and the Royal Mile, known for its cobbled streets around the charming old town.

The Hostel

You will stay in a dormitory room in the Edinburgh Central Youth Hostel, a five-star rated hostel* in the centre of the city. We will try to accommodate requests for being in same sex rooms or rooms with friends as best we can but this cannot be guaranteed.

Please note that on the morning of arrival, you will be dropped off at the hostel to store luggage but check in will be late afternoon/early evening. Likewise, on the final day, you can store luggage at the hostel but will not have access to your room after check-out.

*Visit Scotland, 2024/25.

Dates & Times

The dates of the trip are 19^th December 2026 (meeting at 2:30am at ABACWS to load luggage for a 3am departure) and leaving Edinburgh on 21^st December at 5pm, meaning you have three days in the city. You can expect to arrive back in Cardiff on 22^nd December in the early hours.

Day Excursion

On 20^th December, there will be the option to join a day excursion to explore more of Scotland. This will be an additional charge (in the region of £40, but to be confirmed). If you do not wish to attend, you get a day of free time in Edinburgh.

To do

There’s plenty to do in Edinburgh. Here’s a few highlights:

Edinburgh Castle – Standing high on Castle rock and overlooking the city, this has been a castle since at least the 12^th Centre and possibly as far back as the Iron age. Since then it has been a key site in the battles between England and Scotland. Now there is plenty to see, from defences to towers military prisons and wonderful viewpoints over the city below.
Royal Mile – The Royal mile is the heart of Edinburgh’s old town and links the Castle and the Palace of Holyrood House. It is a must visit area with beautiful architecture and cobbled streets, not to mention plenty of side streets and arcades to explore.
Christmas Markets – Edinburgh is the perfect festive city and the Christmas markets are a wonderful way to spend an evening!
Royal Yacht Britannia – Visit the Royal yacht, which was the Royal Yacht of the monarchy until 1997, now a top tourist attraction where you can walk through the State apartments, visit the crew quarters and tour all five decks.
Dean Village – Situated only a mile from the very centre, Dean Village captures the tranquillity and charm of the industrial past of the city. Once a village in it’s own right, it is now a very desirable area of Edinburgh and feels like a step back in time.
Arthur’s seat – An ancient volcano overlooking the city, this another stunning viewpoint. It is a bit of a climb but worth every moment. Although in Edinburgh itself, this is a great chance to connect with nature and the landscape.
Real Mary King’s Close – Under the old town on Edinburgh lies a series of closes and alleyways. Have a tour through them to find out about the lives of the residents of those who lived here on a tour around these hidden streets.

Please note that these are just ideas of some of the wonderful ways to spend your time. Tickets to the above attractions are not included, though the Christmas Markets, Dean Village and Royal Mile are all free to explore.

Is there anything else that I need to know?

You do not need a passport or visa to enter Scotland.

Should you wish to buy travel insurance, which we would recommend, you will need to arrange this yourself.

You will be sent a link to personal details form a few months before the trip. Please fill this out as soon as possible so that we have all the information needed to make your stay as comfortable as possible – like who you want to share a room with and your emergency contact details. It should not take more than about 5 minutes.

Q. I can no longer attend. Can I get my money back?

A. If you can either find a replacement or if we have someone willing to go from a waiting list, then we can swap the names and issue a refund. Terms to this are below:

There will be £10 admin fee for the person unable to attend.
The person replacing you may have to be the same sex, depending on rooming requirements at the time. Please check with giveitago@cardiff.ac.uk if this will apply at the time you are looking at transferring a ticket.
Transfers need to go through Give it a Go. Only people with named tickets will be allowed on the trip.

Q. Can I buy a ticket in person?

A. Yes. You can buy a ticket from the finance office which is located on the 3^rd floor of the SU and is open weekdays 10am – 4pm. From the stairwell turn left, past the Sabb bowl (large round, glass office) and left again. The finance office is at the end of the corridor, clearly marked by an orange sign.

Q. What will happen if the trip cannot go ahead due to a force-majeure, such as a lockdown or natural disaster?

A. You would be provided with a full refund. We would also try and reschedule, so it may be possible for you to simply transfer your ticket to the new date instead.

Q. I have dietary or medical requirements; will the trip be suitable for me?

A. Please contact us on giveitago@cardiff.ac.uk as soon as possible to discuss your needs and we will do everything we reasonably can to support you.

Q. Do I need to bring bed linen?

A. No, bed linen is provided and beds will be made.

Q. Do I need to bring a towel?

A. You can either bring your own towel or hire one for a small fee. At the time of writing, this fee is £3, though the hostel decides the pricing, so this is subject to change.

A. Where do I store my belongings?

Q. On arrival and departure days, your belongings will be stored in a luggage room, which will be locked when not being used & supervised by Give it a Go. Once you have access to your bedroom, you will be able to store your luggage in lockers, situated inside the room. These will require you to bring a padlock or buy one from the hostel (£3 as of April 2026). You will only be sharing your room with other Give it a Go students, so some students choose to not use the lockers at all, though this is at your own risk.

A. Does the hostel have hairdryers?

Q. You can borrow a hairdryer from the hostel for a deposit (£5 in cash as of April 2026), which will be retuned when the hairdryer is returned undamaged.

Q. I have another question – who should I ask?

A. Please email giveitiago@cardiff.ac.uk and we will always be happy to help.

Please note that in the event of a force-majeure where we need to change the trip, alternative arrangements of an equivalent or higher standard to the initial booking may be made.

The Edinburgh trip and the day excursion are subject to minimum numbers. If either does not meet minimum requirements, the trip may be unable to go ahead.

Please be on time for the coach. If you are late and the coach leaves without you, we are not responsible for your transportation and you will not receive a refund. This applies to all coach journeys during the trip.

You will be given a key card to your room in the hostel, which you will need to return. If you do not return the key card, you will receive a fine of £5.

Officially, there will be no access to the self-catering kitchen during the stay. Typically, the hostel are usually relaxed about small groups or individuals using the kitchen but this cannot be guaranteed.

Dunnottar Castle may be closed at short notice due to poor weather impacting safety. If we cannot visit the castle for this (or any other) reason, people booked onto the day trip will receive a partial refund of £15 and have longer in St Andrews.

Tickets are typically for students only. However, non-students may be able to attend, on a case-by-case basis. Non-students should contact Giveitago@cardiff.ac.uk prior to booking, explaining their relationship to the trip (e.g. alumni, staff, friends with Cardiff students who are attending etc). In some cases (such as a staff member attending) we may require non-students to be in a private room, which will be subject to availability and will come with an additional charge. All non-students will be required to sign a behaviour agreement.

We will share the minimum necessary personal data with accommodation providers so they can manage bookings.

By purchasing a Give It a Go ticket, your details will be added to our Give It a Go participant list. This allows us to contact you about future Give It a Go activities and similar trips. You can opt out of these communications at any time by emailing Giveitago@Cardiff.ac.uk.
