The Advice and Representation Centre provides information, advice and representation for all Cardiff University students. They can help you with academic, consumer, financial and housing issues as well as general advice about student life.

The Athletic Union provides sporting opportunities to all students attending Cardiff University. 

They register and help to administrate more than 60 affiliated sports clubs, as well as run the Intra-Mural Games (IMG) programme in partnership with Cardiff University Sport and Exercise and co-ordinate fixtures for teams that compete in British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) leagues.

Cardiff Student Letting

Cardiff Student Letting is Cardiff University Students' Union's in house letting agency specialising in short to medium term student lettings. 

Cardiff Student Letting charges no agency fees to students and works closely with the Advice and Representation Centre on housing advice and student welfare.

Cardiff Students' Union is home to award winning student media. 

Student Newspaper gair rhydd is Cardiff's Student Weekly and was runner up Best Student Newspaper in the Guardian Student Media Awards 2009. Student Magazine Quench is included fortnightly in gair rhydd and has won Best Student Magazine at the Guardian Student Media Awards twice in the last four years. gair rhydd and Quench are distributed around University buildings, Cathays and online at www.gairrhydd.com

Xpress Radio broadcasts all year round online at www.xpressradio.co.uk and has spent time on FM and DAB radio in the past. 

Cardiff Union Television is the youngest of our student media groups, formed in 2007 to create television programming broadcast on demand from their website www.cardiffunion.tv.

Cardiff Union Events (CUE) organises and runs club nights, live music and special events in the Students' Union building and further beyond.

CUE runs the popular clubnights Fun Factory, The Lash and Boombox in union nightclub Solus as well as organising and promoting gigs featuring up and coming and established artists like Tinie Tempah and Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip.

Cardiff Union Television

Cardiff Venue Centre (CVC) co-ordinates events within the Students' Union building for internal departments, sports clubs and societies and external clients which range from exhibitions and fayres to sit down meals and award ceremonies.

CVC liases with other Students' Union departments like Food and Beverages and Cardiff Union Events to ensure that events run smoothly in all four of our venues, The Great Hall (1500 capacity), Solus (1900 capacity), The Kitchen (400 capacity) and CF10 (320 capacity).

Group_1 Elected Officers

The Elected Officers are your representatives in Cardiff Students' Union. They lead the Students' Union on a day-to-day basis (which is why they're also known as the Executive Committee) as well as taking direction from Student Council and Annual General Meeting. 

The Elected Officers are elected on an annually in March by the student body of Cardiff University

Food and Beverages

Food and Beverages (FAB) run our bars during all gigs, club nights and special events. They're also in charge of providing hot and cold food in cafe bar, The Kitchen, union bar, The Taf and the Graduate Centre Cafebar.

FAB employ more student staff than any other Union department.

Student Newspaper gair rhydd is Cardiff's Student Weekly and was runner up Best Student Newspaper in the Guardian Student Media Awards 2009.

Graduate Centre

The Graduate Centre is a partnership between Cardiff University and Cardiff University Students' Union to provide facilities and services dedicated to postgraduate students, who make up more than a quarter of the University's student population.

The Food and Beverages department of Cardiff University Students' Union manages the Cafe Bar which is open for lunchtime and evening service during the week. Postgraduates also have access to a reading room, IT room, meeting rooms and a lounge area, which allows areas for quiet study and group work.

Images Design, Print and Embroidery

Images are a design, print and embroidery company based in the Mall on the Ground Floor of the Students' Union building. Images provides in-house design, printing, clothing embroidery and printing, sign writing and other promotional products.

Magic Wrap

Cardiff's favourite cult takeaway comes to the Students' Union. A Magic Wrap starts with a Mediterranean flatbread and houmous or mint yogurt on the base then choose your salad fillings; lettuce, carrot, red onion, peppers and cheese and finally your main filling like marinated chicken, roast beef or falafel as well as any extras.

Nightline_cardifflogo_dept Nightline

Cardiff Nightline is your confidential listening and information phone line, run by students for students at Cardiff University, UWIC, University of Glamorgan and Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. 

They offer an understanding ear to students between 8pm and 8am every night during term time and can help with everything from pizza numbers to personal issues.

Quench

Student Magazine Quench is included fortnightly in gair rhydd and has won Best Student Magazine at the Guardian Student Media Awards twice in the last four years.

Quench is the ultimate student lifestyle magazine with features, film, photography, music, food, arts and much more.

RAG

Raising and Giving (RAG) is our student-led service which is dedicated to charity fund raising inside and outside the Students' Union.

RAG raise money with everything from cake sales to bikerides, from skydiving to raids (when they head to another city to raise money for charity).

Sdu SDU

The Student Development Unit offers a range of courses to improve your employability and transferable skills such as Communication, Leadership and also short and longer courses such as First Aid and Sign Language respectively.

SHAG

Our Sexual Health Advisory Group (SHAG) is a student-led service that promotes sexual health awareness and provides free contraceptives for Cardiff University students.

SHAG regularly invade Solus to promote sexual health awareness in their bright pink t shirts and operate a drop-in centre between 12pm and 4pm on Wednesday and Friday where you can pick up free condoms from outside the Student Volunteering Cardiff office on the 3rd floor.

Student Council

Student Council is the governing body of Cardiff University Students’ Union. Student Council is made up of representatives from the Athletic Union, Guild of Societies, Student-led Services, Associations, Academic Reps, the Executive Committee and the wider student body by campus-wide elections.

Student Council meets every fortnight to make, monitor and scrutinise Union policy. Any student can submit a motion to Student Council to create policy.

Cardiff Students’ Union is a student led organisation and as a member, you can have your say in the decisions that are made about everything the Union does.

You run your Union by electing a 60 person strong Student Council, made up of the Executive Committee, members of AU, Societies and Academic Councils and a block of 14 Student Councillors elected from the student body at large.

You lead your Union by electing 8 full-time elected officers and 8 part-time elected officers to the Executive Committee which leads and implements policy of Cardiff Students’ Union.

You control your Union by proposing policy to Student Council and Annual General Meeting to direct and mandate the Executive Committee into action.

Your Union is run according to our constitution and policy book which any student can change by submitting a motion to Student Council or Annual General Meeting

Student Enterprise

Student Enterprise is a joint initiative between Cardiff University and Cardiff University Students' Union to help students realise their full potential in business and entrepreneurship. 

Student Enterprise runs workshops, competitions and sessions about running your own business or social enterprise.

Student Volunteering Cardiff is a student led organisation that focuses on helping the local community through a range of volunteering projects. SVC has over 35 volunteering projects and more than 1000 student volunteers making it the largest student volunteering group in the UK.

The IT Shop provides laptops and desktop computers which are fully integrated into the Cardiff University network to students and staff. Computers can be bought outright or payments can be spread out over a number of months to suit students' financial situations. The IT Shop also provides laptops and mobile internet cards for short to medium term rental. Finally, it sells a wide range of stationary and computer accessories.

The Kitchen

Didn't have to time grab some breakfast before you left for the day? Head to The Kitchen

The Kitchen is our coffee shop and cafe where you can grab a coffee and cake between lectures or pick up one of our Kitchen meal deals for your lunch. The Kitchen offers a whole range of hot and cold food like paninis, pasta pots and sandwiches as well as hot and cold drinks like lattes, cappuccinos and soft drinks.

The Mall

The Mall is the students' union's very own shopping arcade. 

With a wide variety on offer, like academic bookshop Blackwell, hairdressers Cutting Edge, letting agency Cardiff Student Letting, print shop The Print Centre, our employment agency Jobshop and cult student takeaway Magic Wrap, there's something for everyone in The Mall so there's no need to head into town!

Printcentre_dept The Print Centre

The Print Centre offers a range of printing and design services including instant digital print, large format printing, copy and document finishing services, specialised thesis binding services and creative services. 

The Taf

The Taf is your local pub in the students' union.

Open 7 days a week, the Taf is the first stop (or last) for any night out or perfect for grabbing a cheeky drink between lectures. The Taf offers a full menu of pub food during the day and filling platters at night to share with your friends.

The Union Shop offers a whole range of products to Cardiff University students, everything from sandwiches and essential groceries to Cardiff University branded clothing and sportswear. 

The Union Shop also stocks the vending machines available throughout the building for quick and easy access to snacks, drinks, sandwiches and ice creams. The Union Shop also provides Cardiff University and Cardiff University School of Medicine branded clothing at the Students' Union Hub in the IV Lounge at Heath Park campus.

Unistaff Jobshop is a comprehensive student employment agency specialising in placing university students, both from Cardiff University and further afield, in casual and part-time work. The Jobshop is the only agency that offers casual and part-time work for Cardiff University schools and departments and also offers work from other employers such as the Millennium Stadium and SWALEC Stadium.

All jobs pay at least the adult National Minimum Wage and if you register with Jobshop, you'll be kept up-to-date with new vacancies by email.
