Here at Cardiff you can choose to join any club from our huge range of AU Clubs to one of the biggest IMG (Intra Mural Games) programs the recreational sport program taking place throughout the year, or just get involved in one of the numerous events we put on in the year. There really is something for everyone that wants to get involved, all these opportunities are open to everyone and you can find everything you need to know on these pages.
With over 5000 members part of the Athletic Union, Cardiff has one of the largest in the country and you’ll always be able to find some sport to get involved in whatever you enjoy playing and people to enjoy it with! If you can’t find what you’re looking for then why not set up your own club?
The Athletic Union currently supports around 60 sports clubs, ranging from recreational sport to competitive sport which competes against other universities in BUCS (British Universities and College Sport) competitions to gain BUCS points throughout the year. So if you’re looking for competitive sport against the best universities about, these are the clubs to find.
IMG, Intra Mural Games, gives you the chance to play competitive sport at a much more casual rate. If you love playing sport but don’t have the time to commit to busy training schedules, or just want a kick about weekly to keep active, then the IMG is for you.
The high point of the sporting year, however, is the Welsh Varsity. Cardiff University competes against local rivals Swansea University for the prestigious Varsity Shield and Cup in the biggest event on the student calendar! 10,000 students gather together to cheer on our teams in the Varsity Rugby match up, it truly is a day to remember!
