Kieran’s role is concerned with the development of the Student Union’s internal governance and democracy. He’s responsible for the ongoing development of both the company and the charity side of the Students’ Union in line with research and the Strategic Plan. Kieran essentially acts as an independent auditor, holding the staff and the Senior Management Team at the Students’ Union to account, and offering transparency to the student body of both the company and the charity sides of the organisation

Introducing Kieran

Having graduated from City and Regional Planning, my aim is to develop the Students’ Union by making improvements to the organisation’s events, services, governance and democratic procedures. As well as the development side of the role, I will offer close scrutiny of the Students’ Union finances and keep a firm grasp on internal staffing and policy.

Kieran’s Objectives

My broad aims in this role include:

  • A keen focus on student democracy with the objective of increasing attendance at the AGM and improving voter turnout in both the March and October elections
  • Channelling student representation to the heart of our commercial activities, allowing students to provide input into how our nightclubs are run, how our key annual events are shaped and what food and drinks we serve within the Union building
  • Reviewing and developing the internal governance structure here at the Students’ Union, ensuring that as an organisation we are as efficient and representative as possible
  • Providing a wider dispersal of information regarding Students’ Union events and activities
  • Improving signage around the Students’ Union, as well as at the Heath Park Campus
  • Working to grow the Dusk ‘til Dawn Ball into something even bigger and better than last year’s.
